Chelsea linked to young Swedish defender

Stay connected for news and updates

Here's a fun transfer nugget for you this wintry Sunday -- Chelsea have been linked strongly to 15-year-old Swedish defender Ali Suljic, of second-division side Motala AIF. By Motala's chairman. Apparently, if my google-translate foo is working, Mikkail Larsson has claimed that Suljic is on his way to London and that the two teams will begin negotiations this week, with a view to Suljic joining Chelsea in summer.

Unsurprisingly, I've never seen a second-division Swedish side play, so I have no idea what this means (and buying 15-year-olds is rarely a big deal), but I did think that Larsson's quotes were interesting. He's claimed that Suljic has basically been the best player on the pitch since promotion to the first team and that every big European clubs were looking at acquiring him. And, amusingly, that Chelsea's scouts noticed Suljic's talents before his own team did. That's a) hilarious and b) some incredible scouting.

So, a fun little story.
