I am sure this subject has been touched on now and again, but i think its a area that could really be looked at in depth. Reading the comments from various members on this board, there seems to be a almost expectant mood among fans, that when summer comes around we will land at least a few new players.
Now this very well may happen, but a question that i would like to pose is, SHOULD it happen? What we have in front of us is a team that is full of young talent, with players playing all across Europe that can come back and do a job for Chelsea next season. If we have really turned a corner with our youth system and team then we truly need to give them the chance at the first team squad, otherwise we will do what we have always done in seasons past and these players will fade into nothingness.
One of the main areas that i hear Chelsea fans advocating a big money singing for is main striker role. This seems completely unnecessary and ridiculous if you ask me, and this is why:
Now if Torres leaves, maybe there will be room for a striker signing, but not the Falcaos and Cavanis of this world that i hear some fans roar. A signing of that nature, not only is a waste of money and wages, but is not needed for us to challenge for the title next season. Not only this but is surely going to affect Lukaku's progress, which we just cant afford with such a talent. I don't see why we cant bring in Feruz to come in as the 3rd striker, or forgetting that, i still believe Moses has it in his locker.
The other position that people really seem to be pushing for is in the double pivot, another area where we have players coming through that can really do a job. We all know that Chalobah has the potential ability to get into that squad next season, and McEachran still has the potential to become world class in the future. We will also have Romeu back from loan and there is always the option of moving Oscar into that middle of the park role.
I'm not trying to say we shouldn't sign ANYONE in the summer transfer window, as there is potential to add to the team, however these big names that people keep throwing out for 30 - 40 Million pounds are largely unnecessary, and will really impact on the great youth work and team we have in place.
I truly think without signing someone ( perhaps backup goalkeeper aside ) we could really win the title next season, and i think that may be the way we should go.
Well thats what i think, would love to hear what everyone else thinks on the matter.
Thanks for reading.
