Lots of news agencies have this morning been reporting that a Champions League match, played in England in the last 3 years, was fixed.

Europol have been investigating a crime syndicate in Asia who were organising dodgy matches in 15 countries, including high profile events such as Champions League matches and World Cup qualifiers.

Here is the original BBC article

I had a quick search to see if twitter had revealed any details about this yet unnamed match. At this stage it is far too early to say but the match that does seem to keep cropping up is Chelsea vs Barca in May 2009.

Now, many of you will remember the details of that dark night. A certain referee by the name of Ovrebo repeatedly denied us fairly clear cut penalties, eventually leading to our elimination from the competition. I think it is a very real possibility that the reason this match is popping up is simply that feelings still run very deep about this match - certainly felt a bit like a fix at the time. However, I think that is just as much a reason for believing it is not the match in question as everyone joins the dots with the dodgiest match they can think of.

The way our luck has been going recently, yet more scandal looming just feels like a cruel joke.

Keep your eyes peeled and I'm sure the good folks at WAGNH Towers will let us know when anything more concrete comes to light.
