Hazard was excellent in his 22 minutes on the pitch and he was my Man of the Match despite his short cameo. I thought he was great before his amazing strike but his thunderous, left-footed punt gave him the edge over anyone else on the pitch. His stoppage time goal ultimately allowed Chelsea to avoid extra time and progress to the next round.
I did not watch the entire match, but the narrative that I heard was that Chelsea was generally wasteful and that our players were less than great. Hazard provided a breath of fresh air as he replaced Oscar – I’m not sure why Oscar was taken off instead of Torres, but whatevs. He hugged the left touchline and provided terrific pace as Chelsea tried to combat the great defense of Sparta.
He combined nicely with Mata on occasion and he was exceedingly greedy on the ball; he couldn’t be robbed of it as he dribbled through defender after defender. I was out cutting my hair but, luckily, I was able to catch all of Hazard’s time on the pitch. I’ve put the video of all his touches above in case you missed it, or in case you just like witnessing awesomeness.
I’m tired, so I’ll end my review here. i hope you enjoy the music that I've attached - Godowski's transcription of Chopin's Etude op. 10 no.12 "Revolutionary" for the left hand only (Ridiculous, I know).
