While commentators and supporters alike bemoan extra-curricular activities around the box these same groups readily admit that it would be too harsh to start handing out more and more cards for infringements. It is true that the ability of the referee to see the infractions is probably a little justified, he seems to be lacking options in disciplining and regulating the activity. As such, I propose an alternative punishment, one that could be charged more frequently since its effect isn't so grave. Furthermore this punishment will free up corners and likely make them more exciting. I propose that if a player is caught pulling/grabbing/using excessive force pre-corner, the ref should expel them from the box until after the corner is taken. This can be dealt to either defending or attacking player. Now while I realize that rule changes are pretty rare in a traditional sport such as football, I thought it would be an interesting thought experiment to try to solve the small problem.
