Now i'm not expecting a unanimous decision, nor do I want one. I have a unmovable opinion that buying a midfielder in this transfer will essentially destroy all the work Chelsea has put into our loan moves this season.
This is a transition season. You only need to look at our transfers and our amount of loan moves to see this. Sure, it would have been nice to defend 'Big ears' a little better, but essentially, in moving out a generation of players, there will always be a season in which the teams lacks cohesion and generates some poor performances. But the one thing I have held onto all year is the loanees. I name Kalas, Van Aanholt, McEachran, Chalobah, Piazon, Lukaku and De Bruyne as players who will all have differing roles to play in the next season (Which I pick to be another transition(y) season, but wtih more success in the League).
We will probably cry when Frank leaves at the end of the season. I remember faintly when my Dad (a hammers fan) told me that Lampard had moved. I was 6. But he has been amazing. And he will always be a legend. But he probably needs to go, such as Drogba did in June. I see the same fate for Malouda and Torres, but I will not cry for them. Oh and Essien :( Anyway....
What I am trying to say is that if we welcome back the loanees mentioned above, we will have a very good set of midfielders who in my opinion, after watching them all play at least five games each to form an opinion on them (with the exception of Piazon, after moving to Malaga recently). For the Midfield holder/dictator, we have Mikel, Romeu, Chalobah and David Luiz (Kalas in defence can help). And with the midfield flair player, we can have Ramires, McEachran, Oscar and De Bruyne*. The loans have been giving these players valuable minutes, especially Chalobah and McEachran, who have been in a more physical league than the one above. Talent is out of the question, they are both top class, McEachran is a less bulky Wilshire and Chalobah is a younger Yaya Toure. Again only my opinions.
So in conclusion, I would advise *against* buying a midfield player in January. We have vast numbers of Loanees, and the ones with higher levels of potential have far exceeded what was expected of them. And their performances must be rewarded with the opportunity to show their worth in the new look Chelsea.
Thanks for you're time
*Before you start telling me Oscar and De Bruyne haven't played in the pivot, I have formed my OWN opinions, and these are my conclusions, based on their positioning, energy levels and vision.
