Evening all, its currently 18:48 on thursday the 17/1/2013 and i am a concerned fan who has a lot on his mind about the way we are run, what is currently happening at our club. who we should be looking to bring in and where we are travelling.
Currently we are third in (arguably) one of the best leagues in the world. not a bad position right? wrong. we arent arsenal or tottenham where attaining top 4 is classed as an acceptable season. We should be challenging for the title and we should be confident that we can win every game, unfortunately it isnt the case anymore. Yesterday we played one of the bottom clubs in the league who we turned over a few weeks ago fairly easily within reason, and yet, we gave away a two goal lead. dont get me wrong they were two well worked goals, and puncheons finish was fantastic, to which made me think; do we really need to spend £20 million - £50 million on players when if we spent a few million more on developing a scouting network like nothing you had ever seen, we could have a plethora of talent that didnt cost as much but made a bigger impact (case in point chicarito, papis cisse, michu etc etc).
Torres infuriates me, i want him to do so well and have done for so long but the loyalty i have to chelsea far outweighs my hope a player will do well and i can see he is detremental to our team. the fact that he was sent on at all last night made me angry, we dont have many match winners on our bench anymore but when we have one of my old favourites in malouda rotting in the reserves on £100,000 a week and paulo ferriera getting on the bench it kind of puts it into perspective. Malouda could be handy in two ways. 1) He could be deployed as a substitute/rotation for our current wide men in our attacking three. he has more experience than marin, as much as i like that little guy he's very erratic and trying to hard to impress when he does come on. 2) free us up to be able to adapt our tactics, which rafa doesnt seem to be very open to. If we had to revert to 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 he is a strong option as at the very least a back up to mata, oscar is a fantastic player but seems to dissapear much like hazard in games, you can see his effort level is high its just taking him time to settle in the english game. (p.s: i do love paulo, but im not expecting him to win us many games when bertrand is a better option for me as cover or to be sent on when we need to park the proverbial bus)
What i feel we need: firstly to sign lampard up. what the hell is up with that? seriously what in the name of osgood are they thinking letting him go? same goes for cole. that hurts more than anything, nearly more than the robbie sacking. (nearly. if not equal) if they do go there are two players from the same team that could help plug the wholes but as per usual it probably wont happen as its the best option and we at chelsea seem to like the hard way! i would absolutley try and sign Baines and Modric. i do like fellaini but everton arent stupid enough to sell him and leighton to us in one transaction so in my opinion this is just the logical step i feel could be taken. id rather keep lampard but i do like Luka, hes a good player that knows the league. he has had a rough start at madrid due to something i call 'james milner syndrome' huge player at a tiny, tiny club like tottenham (take that as the joke it was intended to be not a serious dig!) and goes to one of the biggest in the world and is no longer the biggest fish. just as milner left villa to sit in the shadows of silva and toure, and not do much for a while. we will have a gaping unfillable void when frank leaves and there really arent many people who can help us plug it. modric simply has the ability to be an acceptable stand in. as for Baines i think he is the stand out best left back in the league in the last two seasons, he's fantastic and i love watching him play, even for his age he could do a job for a team that deploys him correctly. especially with his sexy set pieces!
Managerial candidates, for me there is only one person i am interested in seeing at the bridge and thats the special one. like us all this would be the only thing that could possibly even come close to making up for RDM. other than that if we werent such a joke to every other club in the country, and i was in charge, Moyes would already be in charge. Apart from Alex fergiechewsgum he is my personal pick for best manager in the league, he breeds stability and discipline. and he oozes authority. He has shown he is tactically able to tackle the league with no money. Get a manager who knows football like he does, get rid of the director of football model and have a MANAGER not a coach. What moyes could do with money could be amazing and i would love to see it, but he isnt stupid enough to come to chelsea, he has too much self respect to be tempted to lick the boots of somebody that says 'heres a £50 million striker you didnt want and who is mentally fragile. make him work or youll be at the post office at midnight on a wednesday waiting for your gyro to go in'
I feel a big restructure is in order to sort out all our issues. which i cant see happening.
I also feel we are going to spiral out of control if we arent carefull. There are only so many managers around and so many players who are interested in coming to such a club that has such a powder keg of politics constantly circiling the bridge that there seems to be a constant black cloud over our home games. As a fan its terribly upsetting to see us fall so far from grace and become a bit of a joke not even 12 months after winning the biggest club competition in the world. It saddens me but i will always be a blue, and i will always be interested in what happens next. i hope it is finally something for the best...
