The skipper is getting close to a first team return, and will likely be available for Stoke City this weekend

John Terry is getting close to a return to the Chelsea first team. The injured captain played 45 minutes for the U21 side on Thursday, and looked fairly strong in a 2-0 victory.

The game was shown live on Chelsea TV, so many of us had the chance to watch his rehab appearance. There were certainly signs of rust, as Terry nearly had an Ivanovic-esque moment about midway through his shift. Luckily his U21 teammates were there to bail him out and keep the ball out of the net. Terry also had a header from a Lewis Baker set piece that was wide of the mark, an untypically sloppy looking finish from the usually accurate captain.

Terry reportedly felt fine after the showing, and may be ready for a place on the bench this weekend. I'd be surprised to see Terry get a start this soon, but after a successful stint today, he'd seem an ideal candidate for a cameo if the situation warrants it. Regardless of his status this weekend though, it was nice to see him playing today. Hopefully he's back on the Stamford Bridge pitch soon, as he's now missed 16 games with the injury.
