Jhon Pirez has been loaned to Spanish side Leganés

Stay connected for news and updates

Earlier in the summer we had word of a loan for young striker Jhon Pirez to Spanish second division side CE Sabadell, but today the player's career has taken somewhat of an unusual turn as Segunda Division B side CD Leganes is reporting on their official site that they have signed Pirez. It seems that the original move to Sabadell fell down as the striker suffered an injury and thus presumably failed a medical.

The official announcement is a little vague, probably because I'm reading it through Google Translate, but it seems like this is a loan deal rather than a full transfer. That means Chelsea have now sent a staggering 24th player out on loan* this summer. You may remember Pirez for the knee injury that ruled him out for much of last season: it's perhaps a little unfortunate that's most likely the only way of which people remember his name. As we said when we thought he was heading to Sabadell, he's now got a big chance with some near certain game time to show us what he can do.

*Make that 25th, as James Ashton appears to be at Chalrlton on loan as well.
