Chelsea FC have been heavily linked to the Atletico Madrid striker, but reports in England this morning are suggesting that the club have not yet bid for the services of the Colombian forward.
We spent the last several hours of deadline day watching Radamel Falcao absolutely shred what has otherwise been a fairly solid looking Chelsea defense, so naturally we spent the next several days hearing about a move for the talented Colombian. Sky Sports poured some cold water on that rumor this morning, they had the following to say in their report:
Sky Sports understands that Atletico have not received a formal bid from Chelsea. It is also understood that the Spanish club would not welcome an approach as they are determined to keep Falcao and do not want to even discuss selling.
This obviously doesn't mean that there is no interest from Chelsea, and it should be fairly obvious that Atletico wouldn't be seeking to sell one of the better players on the planet. With those things in mind, I'm a little more willing to trust what Sky Sports "understands" than I usually would be. After all, all that they're really reporting here is that they don't believe we've made a formal bid yet.
The January window is still a fair bit from opening, so there's plenty of time to talk with Atletico if we do indeed want to add the Colombian. That said, there's also plenty of time to explore other options. Who knows, maybe a certain Kraken-like creature will continue to impress and convince Michael Emenalo that center forward depth isn't even a minor concern going forward. I guess we'll see in the next three months while we're awaiting the re-opening of the registration period.
