Marin, Sturridge both out of Stoke City match

Stay connected for news and updates

Roberto di Matteo has confirmed that the hamstring injury that sidelined Daniel Sturridge in training before the match against Juventus will keep him out of action this weekend. And possibly beyond that, too:

[Daniel] Sturridge is better but not quite ready for tomorrow. We'll have to assess him, if he doesn't make the Capital One Cup [against Wolverhampton Wanderers], it shouldn't be much longer. Injuries can happen to any player, we go into the game not thinking about injuries.

Chelsea also added the obligatory 'Marko Marin, meanwhile, is not yet ready for first team selection' line, but the good news is that Oscar is available after that nasty-looking stamp on his ankle during the Blues' 2-2 draw against Juventus. I'm not entirely sure I'd play the kid against Stoke, because they're pretty liable to try to kick the [fun] out of him, but at least he's an option.

Anyway, there are apparently no other injury concerns, which is good. I'm still concerned about Sturridge, because if Fernando Torres picks up a problem with Sturridge still out, we're going to have some serious(er) problems at centre forward.
