CARDIFF, WALES - AUGUST 04: Daniel Sturridge of Great Britain looks dejected after his penalty was saved in the penalty shoot out during the Men's Football Quarter Final match between Great Britain and Korea, on Day 8 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at Millennium Stadium on August 4, 2012 in Cardiff, Wales. Daniel Sturridge is away with the England squad as they prepare to take on the Ukraine Tuesday evening, but he's been limited in training this weekend in the leadup to the game. He struggled in training on Sunday, and today was held out with stomach issues. We'll leave it to Roy Hodgson to fill us in on all of the details:
Daniel actually trained yesterday with these stomach cramps and complained of them but he still got through the training session. Today he woke up with the same sort of stomach cramps and the doctor advised us to keep him out of training and to see how things are when he wakes up tomorrow. The doctor is actually quite confident he is going to be okay.
This doesn't appear to be serious, but I'd rather see England play it safe and rest Sturridge if he's not fully healthy. Chelsea are thin at center forward, and we've got a congested schedule that will be beginning next weekend. I'm sure Danny wants to play, but he's still a Chelsea player, and for now I hope Hogdson takes the club's needs into account when making his decisions.
