Manchester United: The Glazer Family’s Bad Play

I don't know how many of you saw this article the other day, or keep that abreast of the financial development of these possibly multi-billion (with a B) companies. And that is what they are when it all comes down to it, as much as we love them, and live and die on every free kick it comes down to being a business, (don't believe me as Portsmouth) let alone a major rival like Manu but its worth a read. Don't get me wrong I want to see use end up above them every year on the table. But not because they are bankrupt.

So Here's to you Mr. Abramovich, you injected much needed money and leadership (and money) in a time where we could of gone either way. At this time we now we are Champions of Europe (in case you missed that) and in a better financial position than many many other clubs. I just didn't put it all together in how much better till recently.

When Chelsea came to Philly I was more than lucky to join a Q&A with Ron Gourlay and he addressed this briefly. It was a few weeks ago so I'll wont pretend to quote him accurately but the jist of it was that Chelsea are in a much better position than some of our rivals throughout Europe for one major reason: The Bridge. The fact that we were ranked I six for a football club in value is amazing since the bridge only holds a touch over 40k fans a game, whilst others like say arsenal at the emirates holds almost 20k more than us every home game. This being a major reason for the Battersea bid (which Ron did say he thought there was still an outside chance). We still have room to grow.

Now that we have shifted to a youth movement, we can reasonably be sure that holes in the lineup will be matters of depth, and in which case the price of our incoming transfers much smaller. This with the eventual expansion of the bridge or moving to a new stadium puts us in a great spot for the future FFP included. (Stephen wrote a great piece on our FFP status and how transfers will be affecting us here)

So again Thanks Mr. A, we are in a good spot with room for growth for what seems will be the next decade. It could of gone much much worse.
