Striker Crisis, Resolved?

So we're looking for a new striker... This striker will either overtake Nando in the pecking order or someone to fall behind him in the pecking order. Names such as Cavani and Llorente will definitely take the starting berth but others mentioned such as the likes of Mirallas would definitely be an understudy to Nando. After the Jump I'll go give my view on which one we need and why.

Many of us are confident enough to put our faith into Nando's ability to lead the line next season, so all we need is an understudy. Well, the fact is, we already have an understudy to Nando. With plans to add Moses or Hulk and the shortage in numbers up front, Many would expect RDM to utilise Sturridge in his favoured position down the middle next season. Being an Understudy to Nando, I'd expect sturridge to get at least 33-50% of the game time up front next season which I see as sufficient to his growth. However signing someone like Mirallas who is better or of similiar level to Sturridge will mean shared game time and limited growth. This doesn't look like an ideal route and we would be shooting ourselves in the foot, limiting a youth players growth, especially one of our most promising prospects.

But with Drogba and Kalou's departures and Lukaku's loan move, there is a pressing need for depth within our strikeforce. So we need a third choice striker. Free agent Emile Heskey is dangerous and would excite many fans but perhaps the solution lies within our youth squad. My solution, is of course Lucas Piazon.

I'm not going to bore you with a synopsis of Piazon as many of you are already familiar with Piazon but here's a brief summary: Many see Piazon as a winger due to his skillful dribbling but I definitely see him as evolving into a number 9 or 10. Piazon is a poacher (as shown by his goal against PSG) and cool and composed finisher. He could really evolve into a Torres-type of player (the successful version). Piazon is an exciting player with a lot of raw ability, he has flair and has delivered in the reserves. He may not be ready for the top level just yet and is as no where near as good as sturridge was at the end of his loan spell at Bolton but he does deserve a chance and is good enough for a third choice striker.

Last season, I only remember Drogba and Torres leading the line for Chelsea in the league last season with a few glimpses of Lukaku so we would need to rely on Piazon often. Plus to lose both first and second choice strikers when using a one-striker formation would be highly unfortunate and I predict if Piazon is third choice striker, he would only need to play 10 or less games next season. So there you have it, Lucas Piazon, may not be the finished product but he definitely deserves a chance.
