No Olympics For David Luiz

Everyone, including Chelsea, was expecting David Luiz to make Brazil's Olympic team as one of their three overage players. Apparently, that's not going to happen. Brazil announced their 18-man squad today, and there was something of a surprise:

Ignore the slip about Hulk's club team, by the way - Mr. Duarte corrects himself later.

Anyway, this is pretty sad news for David Luiz, who has always claimed that he wanted to play for Brazil in the Olympics and looked certain to partner Thiago Silva. It's not clear what caused him to be dropped (Hulk is his replacement), but Snap Kaka Pop have claimed that a minor injury is what's keeping him out, which means I have to end this paragraph with a crying face. :'(.

All told, this means that a) Olympic football is now far less watchable and b) that David Luiz is likely to come on the USA tour, assuming that the supposed injury is minor. Good news for those of us who are stateside, I suppose, but it'd have been nice if the curly-haired lunatic had been able to play in the matches he actually wanted to.

Here's the full squad, in case you are really into Brazilian Olympic football:

Brazil: Pat, Alecsandro, Uvini, Danilo, Ganso, Hulk, Juan, Leandro Damiao, Lucas, Marcelo, Neto, Neymar, Oscar, Rafael, Rafael da Silva, Romulo, Sandro, Thiago Silva.

(Overage players bolded, official list here).
