Daniel Sturridge has, according to the Daily Mail, contracted meningitis, and as a result the Chelsea forward may be ruled out of the Olympic games later this month. That's uh. Yeah, that's pretty crazy, although we once had a centre forward contract funning malaria, so I'm getting slightly jaded as far as odd diseases go.
At any rate, although meningitis can be really bad news, there are lots of different types, and it doesn't sound like Sturridge is in any real danger. They'll be running batteries of tests on him to figure out what's going on, no doubt. Anyway, Sturridge will be desperate to strut his stuff at the Olympics after missing out on Euro 2012, so missing out would be really sad news for him.
Here's hoping he can make a full and quick recovery so he can participate in the Games, which could be his big chance to show he can be a true centre forward at a high level.
