Transfers, Age, Sturridge and much, much more!

This transfer season has been weird but wonderful. It is not normal that we agree to sign players before the window even opens (Marin, Hazard), we usually wait until the last few weeks and pay a higher price (Torres). The new way about doing our business early should definitely be pleasing for all Chelsea fans. This new mentality along with the new business partnerships (Gazprom) makes me confident about the business future of Chelsea Football Club.

What we have done so far:

Marko Marin - £7 million.

Eden Hazard - £32 million.

Thorgan Hazard - £1-2 million.

Oscar - £19.6 million.

Let's have a look at the ages of these players:

Marin - 23 years old.

E.Hazard - 21 years old.

T. Hazard - 19 years old.

Oscar - 20 years old.

All these players are very young. We clearly have a youthful exciting project in the works with Michael Emenalo pulling the strings very nicely.

Recently we have signed only two players over the age of 25 (Meireles and Cahill)

Additionally Drogba, Kalou and Bosingwa have all left, all were over 25.

The players we have who are 25 and older:

Lampard, Terry, Cole, Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Luiz, Meireles, Essien, Mikel, Malouda, Ferreira, Benayoun, Torres, Hilario, Turnbull.

That's 16 players.

25: Luiz and Mikel.

26: Cahill

27: Turnbull

28: Torres and Ivanovic

29: Meireles, Essien

30: Cech

31: Terry and Cole

32: Benayoun and Malouda

33: Ferreira

34: Lampard

36: Hilario

On last year of contracts:

Ashley Cole,Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda, Yossi Benayoun, Ross Turnbull, Henrique Hilario and Paulo Ferreira.

That's 7 out of the 16.

Out of the remaining nine, 2 are 25, 1 is 26, 2 are 28, 2 are 29, 1 is 30 and 1 is 31.

If none of those players are offered renewed contracts (I expect Lampard and Cole to be renewed) then our oldest player would be John Terry at the age of 32 next year, which is extremely pleasing as most of these players are considered 'deadwood'. With Chelsea only buying youthful players at the moment, I wouldn't mind a few players who are about to hit their peak and have experience to balance our squad, Hulk comes into mind.

In the remaining time of this transfer window I would like to see Benayoun and Malouda leave along with possibly one of Meireles or Essien depending on pre-season in order to increase our finances.

Worryingly Daniel Sturridge is also in his last year of his contract. I would sign him up to a long term contract immediately. I don't understand what people have against him, I've not seen anything particularly wrong with his attitude. I know he is selfish with ball but most young, eager strikers are the same. Give him a chance. He's English and has a great future ahead of him. It would be ludicrous to sell him for a measly fee now and regret it in the future.
