It seems very clear now that we are imminently going to add the young Brazilian 'Oscar' to our ranks. Graham and Stephen have being doing a great job keeping us up to date on proceedings and fingers crossed the purported date of 27.07.12 for the deal to go through is right.
I am excited about the prospect of Oscar because he would represent the first time Chelsea have gone out and paid big for a young player who is just about to set the world alight. Its a bold move and represents the continuing transition of the club. However the first I had heard of Oscar was reading an article that Spurs were going to sign him as a Modric replacement. I thought at the time - Why don't Chelsea just sign the next Modric rather than just the current one! Well it seems the club thinks the same. Possibly we did all along and its just a case of AVB trying to sign up Emenalo's hit list.
What this has all done though is mask my Moura lust. You may recall that we had a bid turned down for the Samba boy not so long back and now it seems United are getting close (if you call having their own bid -29 million - turned down getting close). The rhetoric though does seem to suggest that a deal is possible and therefore I think it is prudent for us to consider whether we should sign Oscar or Moura.
Moura is 5ft 8 in and has been playing as a CAM/Winger for Sao Paulo since 2010. He has played for the full Brazilian team and is at this summers Olympics. He is 19. 14 goals in 59 appearances.
Oscar us 6ft and has played as a CAM for Internacional since 2010. He has played for the full Brazilian team and is at this summers Olympics. He is 20. 11 goals in 36 appearances.
Not a lot in that really and given that Oscar seems to be at least 10 million cheaper this seems to be the better option without any further analysis. Also Oscar is probably more suited to taking up a deeper role than Moura whose talents are better served on the wing. Solution? Buy both!
