I was having an argument with one of my good mates, who is unfortunately a United supporter, about the stats that players should have in FIFA 13. I was saying that Torres should be 86 and he countered with 'If Torres is 86, then Rooney should be 95'. So I went to find some stats to shove back in his face and they were very surprising.
I need to set the parameters here:
No penalties as they artificially inflate a player's stats. If you counted them then Lampard is the most in form goal scorer of the last decade with 20 + goals a season for 6 seasons straight up until last year.
I also only decided to look at games started Torres isn't what you would call an impact sub and for next season is going to be the starting striker.
Lastly, I am looking at competitive games for club and country for this season (including Euros).
Rooney:
43 appearances (+2 sub).
26 goals (+9 penalties but we don't count them).
10 assists.
0.84 goals/assists per game started.
Torres:
29 appearances (+25 sub).
13 goals.
14 assists.
0.93 goals/assists per game started.
I went even further to look exactly at the goals/assists per minute in games started.
Rooney:
Played 3854 minutes total and started 3805.
107.05 minutes per goal/assist.
Torres:
Played 3238 minutes total and started 2875.
106.48 minutes per goal/assist
To all those people doubting Torres... Look at the stats. When he starts, he is better than Rooney. I'm not saying he is, its the stats!
