Yesterday we had lots of talk about the possibility of adding Inter right back Maicon. The general consensus seemed to be that Maicon wouldn't be a terrible fit, but that the £8 million that Sky Italia was reporting was entirely too much. The Daily Mail had some Maicon news for us today, and according to their report the Inter asking price is actually closer to £6 million. The report also claims that Chelsea are looking at Lille's Mathieu Debuchy who is also in the last year of his deal.
As always with the English media, there is certainly some debate as to just how accurate this report is. This one comes closer to passing the smell test for me though, as £6 million seems a reasonable price for Inter to be asking for a 30 year old with only a year remaining on his deal. I still think it's a bit high for the right back, but it's a far more reasonable place to start the negotiations. If Chelsea broke down and paid that price, I wouldn't be terribly upset. With the Euro's now officially over and the transfer window officially open, I'd imagine we'll start to see things start to happen more quickly. As usual, we'll keep you informed if we hear more.
