Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: Nathaniel Chalobah To Be Loaned?

We've spent a lot of time today discussing moves for players we don't have -- let's move on to figuring out what to do with the players whom we do have around. The name on everyone's lips most emphatically is not Nathaniel Chalobah, but the Mirror is talking about him, so we'll talk about that.

According to said paper, Chelsea are looking at sending out the young defender/midfielder/whatever he is out on loan to the Championship, although they don't mention teams. I don't know how often most of you have seen Chalobah play. If you're a connoisseur of the youth and the reserves you'll be very familiar with him and therefore fully aware that he's ready to take it up to the next level.

Chalobah's 17, and right now the biggest priority is to get him playing time. Obviously, he can get that with the reserves and the youth next year, but if there's a Championship side who can commit to giving him regular playing time (hopefully at centre back, but holding midfield would also be interesting), there's no reason I can think of that we wouldn't want to send him off.

As with all loans, this could be hugely beneficial in Chalobah's development. But if Chelsea really do send him off to the second tier, they'll have to be very, very sure he'll get playing time. He's at the point where a lost year could be hugely costly, and it would suck if we sent him to the wrong place.

It's not clear whether the Mirror's report is accurate, but it mostly makes sense, so hey whatever.
