Daniel Sturridge, Team GB Centre Forward?

Want to see how Daniel Sturridge fares as a centre forward? Well then you should, apparently, keep a close eye on the Olympics this summer, where the 22-year-old* is set to be team GB's primary option down the middle. With Danny Welbeck involved in Euro 2012 and therefore unlikely to feature during the Olympics, it looks like this is Sturridge's chance to show that he can actually play his supposed preferred position. Assuming you trust the Mail's analysis, anyway. It sounds right, but since my only real interest in Olympic soccer is seeing David Luiz happy, my opinion is slightly suspect here.

*Consider this your weekly reminder that Daniel Sturridge is still a fairly young prospect.

Anyway, if Sturridge does start at centre forward against pretty good competition, it'll be a neat look into how we can expect him to perform as Fernando Torres' backup next season. Granted, he'll miss Chelsea's pre-season tour, but I think getting the chance to play in real games should be worth it. Hopefully he can excel. Unless he's playing against David Luiz, because then David Luiz would be sad.
