There have been reports in England that Tottenham Hotspur will be making former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas their new manager in the very near future. Regardless of what you think of this appointment, it should move the talk surrounding Spurs to matters involving their players. Luka Modric is a name everyone around here is watching, and the Guardian touched on what his future may hold in the AVB article yesterday:

Villas-Boas and his representative have sought assurances about the future of Tottenham's best players, chief among them the midfielder Luka Modric, who has exited Euro 2012 with Croatia and is determined to be granted a big transfer this summer. Villas‑Boas tried to sign Modric when he was at Chelsea last summer, only for Levy to block the £40m proposal.

It is unclear whether Levy will be able to hold on to Modric for another season, although he is empowered to hold the player to his contract, which has four years to run. He is adamant he would not sell Modric to Chelsea or Manchester United but he may be more receptive to a bid from Real Madrid, particularly if the sum on offer was upwards of £40m.

Be aware, this is pretty typical of the English media in the fact that they don't give a source. This would, however, makes sense on any number of levels. After an awful go of things at Chelsea, AVB is unlikely to be looking for a job involving a major rebuild where he'd be likely to struggle. Tottenham have also shown themselves to be tough negotiators in the past, so a reluctance to sell Modric to a direct rival would also seem to be believable.

At the moment, we really have nothing other than some more food for thought, but it will be something to be aware of going forward. It wouldn't seem, however, that this will be a matter that will be resolved quickly. Hope you all enjoyed the extended Luka Modric saga last summer, as the possibility of a repeat still exists.
