Josh McEachran's loan at Swansea could not be called anything but a disaster. So, I was thinking what Chelsea should do with the hugely talented 19-year old player, who recently carried the Olympic torch as the "future" of Chelsea. In my opinion, he needs to play at least 15 full games next season top continue his development into the awesome we all know he can be. I'm assuming that Chelsea will continue with the 4-2-3-1 and that Josh will be played in the double pivot if he stays at Chelsea. I'll analyse what options the club has after the jump.

Option #1: Keep him at the club for the season

This option requires him to stay at Chelsea at compete with the likes of Lampard, Mikel, Romeu, Essien and Meireles for two positions(!). So, if Chelsea were to exercise this option, it would require at least one player to be shipped off to another club (I'm thinking Essien and Meireles). Even with one player gone, I can see him getting a good number of minutes owing to our fixture congestion this year (because WE"RE CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE). Also, I'm assuming whoever will become the new manager will continue to use Ramires on the wings. If Chelsea buys another player to compete with him (Modric?), then I can't see him getting many opportunities to play if he stays.

Option #2: Loan him out at the start of the new season

This seems to be the consensus around WAGNH about what we should do with Josh. There are no guarantees that the new manager that will come in will Josh time on the pitch. He could move to a team like West Ham to develop further. The biggest problem with this option is that his development will not be controlled by Chelsea and the situation could end up being like the one at Swansea.

Option #3: Keep him for half a season and see what happens

This is the option I would go with if I had any say in the matter. This would enable him to show the new manager what he has to offer to the club and if the manager feels he's not ready, he could be loaned out in the winter. This would also enable him to provide cover and play in some of the useless matches at the FIFA Club World Cup (which we're playing in because we're EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!). Our League Cup run would also hopefully last till December, which would be a competition in which Josh should play every single minute. If things don't work out, I'm sure there will be a lot of teams willing to take on loan a guy as talented as Josh.
