He did it! He really did it!
Well that was an extremely entertaining game to watch. The starting lineup today certainly looked exciting from an attacking perspective, but there were always questions about how well the defense was going to play. Just looking at the lineups, 5-2 really doesn't seem like all that unrealistic of a score to expect. With that in mind, here are my initial thoughts after the performance:
- Fernando Torres looked great today. He really could have had 4 or 5 with the way he played, and he was still looking to set up teammates even when he was on a hat trick. The one that broke the duck was by no means pretty, but at this point I'll take anything that he can get.
- I couldn't think of a better player to open the scoring. Having spent the first half of the year as a teammate to Fabrice Muamba, I was ecstatic to see Gary Cahill get his first Chelsea goal today. The celebration was fantastic (video after the jump), and I'm thrilled that he was not given a yellow for it.
- Ryan Bertrand looked as good as Ashley Cole has all season. That's not to say he couldn't have been better today, but the bar hasn't been set all that high. Hopefully Roberto Di Matteo sees this and occasionally rests Ashley.
- Leicester really went for it after going down 3. I'd have expected most teams to close up shop, but they certainly didn't. Kudos to them for playing so aggressively.
