AVB rules out Neymar to Chelsea FC

No Neymar for you!!!

Sometime the media takes quotes out of context and seems to run with them, but Andre Villas-Boas seems to believe that Neymar will not be making his way to Stamford Bridge this summer. While attending the Lareus World Sports Awards on Monday evening AVB was quoted with the following:

I think the Neymar matter is closed and locked in a safe. He has decided his future and no-one knows where he will go. Unfortunately he will not come to us.

That really doesn't leave much doubt on several fronts. AVB seems to be a fan of the player and we're certainly still interested as a club. So it does appear that Neymar himself seems to prefer a move elsewhere, and one would have to assume that somewhere is in Spain.

While I'm personally a bit disappointed in this news, I'm certainly very open to quite a few other options on our wings. I think it's fairly obvious that we're still interested in several elite young players this summer with slightly smaller price tags, so hopefully the Spanish teams will have less interest in those players now and give us an easier negotiation in acquiring their services. Either way, Neymar is one name that we can seemingly cross off of our wish list for the time being.

Good news everyone!

Giving up on Neymar must mean that we have a decent-to-good chance of grabbing Hazard/Moura/Other offensive prospect! And for significantly less money too!

I may not know much about life, but what I do know has taught me to believe in Chelsea.

I didnt want him anyway

Not for the price, and not with that selfish attitude. Much prefer Hazard, Lucas, etc

No no no...

it’s just his natural Portuguese skin.. the sun just kisses it so gently. JK. Did he shave his face or something? It looks… different, somehow. Mata went to these as well, and was looking all fancy pants.

OT: The DailyFail is reporting that Arsenal are swooping in for Sturridge.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2097966/Arsenal-want-Chelseas-Daniel-Sturridge.html

He’s playing a lot, he’s scoring goals, what could possibly force him to move?

That AVB isn’t playing him in the center…..

Whatever. If (on the off-chance that this is true) Arsenal cough up 40m, they can have him….

by Valens on Feb 8, 2012 3:24 AM GMT reply actions

Err

I can’t see him really fitting in Arsenal… at all. Doesn’t know how to pass. He is also getting too old. Stupid Daily Fail.

Typical fail...

Danny would cost considerably more than they’ve ever paid for a player

by Stephen Schmidt on Feb 8, 2012 3:43 AM GMT up reply actions

Daniel Sturridge would cost £20m?

Christ, the Home Grown Player™ tag really adds to the price, doesn’t it?

Can't imagine he'd be less

Jordan Henderson just cost 20, Carroll 35, Even the Ox was 12 if I recall correctly.

by Stephen Schmidt on Feb 8, 2012 1:21 PM GMT up reply actions

Carroll 35

Hahahahaha, still makes me laugh. And 20 million for Henderson, wow just wow. A Spanish player with his qualities would not cost more than 5 million pound.

Wait

So they think that Sturridge is more likely to want to go be RVP’s backup than he is to start every match for Chelsea on the right?

hahahahahahahahaha

The plot thickens.....

http://wearethenorthbank.com/england-international-hawked-to-arsenal-by-agent/

The guys on this website cover everything that has to do with Arsenal’s scouts. They claim that Sturridge Senior contacted Arsenal’s chief scout, offering Sturridge to play for them…….

by Valens on Feb 8, 2012 6:59 AM GMT up reply actions

The funny thing is

I can see Sturridge being silly enough to take his substitution against United completely out of proportion and now be trying to “trick” the management into playing him in the middle.

by TPalmer on Feb 8, 2012 10:11 AM GMT up reply actions

Sturridge is supposedly a lifelong Arsenal fan...

So it’s not a huge stretch to think he quite wants to play there at some point. He might even be willing to be more reasonable with his wage demands in order to facilitate such a move (I guess it depends on what really motivates him).

I think we could probably demand a decent sum for him and, to be completely honest, he doesn’t offer anything that’s not replaceable. If we were to sell him to Arsenal for £25-30m (and I can’t see us letting him leave for anything less) then we could easily replace him and come out of the whole equation having got the better deal.

by deg0ey on Feb 8, 2012 12:02 PM GMT up reply actions

Wow what a bell cheese

Danny is, not bad enough with his on field antics that he is so selfish and refuses to pass to Torres & now this.

This ego is too massive, he needs to be more humble and patient eventually we will put him in the middle. He needs to play for the team & not himself, I bet Wellbeck wouldn’t be like this.

by Adeyo on Feb 8, 2012 12:41 PM GMT up reply actions

Ha

I saw that.. and apparently he was an Arsenal fan for awhile. He never really had a consistent team he supported as a kid, according to whatever article it was that I read. They determined that this, in combo with his jumping from club to club, meant that he had no loyalty to Chelsea and that he would threaten the club with a move to Arsenal if he didn’t get to play CF soon.

Ashley Young's Gooner too

He said in an interview that he supported Arsenal and some ManU fans booed him… the jerks. :cP

I see

apparently Danny supported Derby for awhile (that’s embarrassing… I kid… sort of), too, because of his uncle.

Lucas + Hazard >>>>> Neymar

Frankly, I might take Lucas alone over Neymar. The talent is obvious, but the attitude concerns me – and strikers just aren’t as important in the modern game as a creative midfielder is in most cases.

This is a sad sad day in Chelsea's recent transfer dealings (apart from the Torres debacle)

I really like Neymar and felt his arrogance would fit in well with Terry, Drogba and Cole. He is the only player I’ve bought in all my FM games (when managing Chelsea) since the 2009 one! If we truly don’t buy him I’m going to feel the way I felt when Aguero joined City instead of us: sad.

by Iced O on Feb 8, 2012 7:08 AM GMT via mobile reply actions

I agree about Aguero

I cannot believe that we were paying 50 million (!) on a player who has only had 2 good seasons in his entire career, and who had a terrible season before he joined us. While we were being linked with Aguero for over 2 years.

by The Bison on Feb 8, 2012 1:59 PM GMT up reply actions

Just because we were linked with Aguero for 2 years

Doesn’t mean we were ever actually interested. At least Torres had proved he had what it takes to play in the Premier League, whereas Aguero had no such track record to back him up. It’s easy to pick the right transfer target in hindsight. I don’t think that £50m for Torres was necessarily a good move, but Aguero could just has easily have turned out to be a bust as well.

by deg0ey on Feb 8, 2012 2:07 PM GMT up reply actions

So you're saying that Torres was a proven veteran?

You can’t see me, but I’m shuddering right now.

Aguero was the better fit by virtue of simply being the better player. Torres was a knee-jerk reaction that cost us the money we should have saved for Aguero, proven-ness be damned.

by cwel87 on Feb 8, 2012 3:07 PM GMT up reply actions

Think you're missing deg0ey's point

It’s that Aguero could have just as easily sucked this year. It is easy to say it was a terrible move to buy Torres now. But regardless of whether Aguero fit the system better and Torres didn’t, it’s not like the club could say if it would have worked. Torres wasn’t a fit and it was definitely an impulse buy (or a long impulse… because Abromovich basically wanted to have his baby for years), but they must have weighed the potential risks and somehow selected Torres. And by somehow, I mean, Roman just went and bought him up like a pastry from a coffee shop. An expensive coffee shop.

I have to admit, Aguero adopted faster than I had expected him to, but ManCity play a different style than Chelsea, so it is hard to say how he would have done here.

by alynne4307 on Feb 8, 2012 6:06 PM GMT up reply actions

It's always been pretty easy to say that Torres for £50m was a bad move when it happened

Including when it happened.

And yes, Aguero adapted quickly. The top talents in the world tend to adapt rather quickly to whatever league they play in. Even if he didn’t adapt to our system as fluidly, though, he would still be four years younger and £15m cheaper.

by cwel87 on Feb 8, 2012 10:18 PM GMT up reply actions

Aguero was always the better option!

At the time Chelsea were (and still are) crying out for somebody with Aguero’s skill set, he has quick feet and close control and can beat people for fun, just a level of technical ability that Torres has never had. Also with Drogba still at the club it was a wasted transfer, Chelsea were only ever going to play 1 up front and Torres and Drogba could never play in the same team. Torres also requires a type of service and a style of play that Chelsea don’t provide, on the other hand Aguero can score from anywhere often with little or no help from his team mates! Then there is the price, £50 million is a huge fee, especially for a player who had been pretty injury prone for a while as well as being off form for about year, also the age factor-being almost 27 when he was bought he was at peak value and regardless of performance any re-sale value would have been considerably less than the £50m paid for him where as Aguero was about 4 years short of peak value!

Or Lucas will explode and win the golden ball

Or Hazard will, well, be Hazard, and he’ll win the golden ball.

We have no idea. What we do know is that Neymar would probably cost a lot more than either and that he doesn’t play as an attacking midfielder or creative winger.

If Neymar wants to play ball with his fellow prima donna Cristiano, well, then go ahead. We’ll find other pieces to be just as, if not more, competitive.

by cwel87 on Feb 8, 2012 10:23 PM GMT up reply actions

HAZARD

Hazard is the young goalscoring playmaker we want, the perfect compliment to Mata and feeder for Torres/Sturridge/Lukaku, plus he keeps the Belgian revolution alive! Also, we could get Lucas or Ganso cheaper if we’re to go for Brazilian wunderkindage (we should).

by leducviolet on Feb 8, 2012 9:26 AM GMT reply actions

Neymar will probably stay in Brazil

At least until after the world cup. There is enough money and prestige in playing where he is.
