I hope Bertrand plays a blinder.

Maybe it’ll get him out of the basket on occasion.

Won't mind that

I’m honestly a bit surprised to see Torres there starting, though

Not a lot of kids in my major.

We could either take the class next year when the teacher would have a good time during the week or have our lab on a Saturday. Luckily my school and teacher were fine with allowing us a vote at the end of last semester when we were registering. We all wanted the Saturday class so it wouldn’t have a chance of conflicting with anything next year. It’s not all bad, since there is only 7 of us we set up a roster for who brings donuts each Saturday.

Something about leadership not being quantifiable

Which it isn’t, but I’ll be fucked if they don’t look like a totally different team with Drogba on the pitch. Not a great team, mind you – just a competent one.

Since nobody else has had any impact, I'll say it had some effect, but...

…the yelling I hope AVB gave them at the half and 4-2-3-1 are just as important. : )

If we play a 4-2-3-1 there'll be no pressure on Gargano and Inler

Then they’ll just be able to completely dictate the play. We’ll have to have two advanced midfielders to pick them up

That's the thing, at Liverpool, Torres had Stevie G pulling the attack together.

None of our players, bar Drogba, except when he takes a day off, have any leadership skills. Mata, Sturridge, Torres, Ramires, Meireles, Lampard, Kalou, et al. are all mild-mannered nice guys. We need more than one guy who’s just a fucking prick*.

Couldn't hurt.

Kalou is better than Malouda.

Kalou is horrid when he starts, but decent as a sub

Agree on that

He looked solid and had excellent control of the ball

by Rohi D on Feb 18, 2012 2:50 PM GMT up reply actions

agreed

he’s fast and willing to run at the defense

by dojothecat on Feb 18, 2012 2:52 PM GMT up reply actions

Kalou & Sturridge

on the wings is a sexy amount of speed, cant hurt

i would really like us to pick up Moura

often when Ramires is bursting forward it seems he has no one to run/exchange with. Sturridge is fast but his interplay needs a lot of work. plus Brazilians understand each others’ ideas better. :)

Not this side

we have Lukaku, Sturidge, Torres (he still counts)

I really wonder how he'd be with someone who could take on a game like Gerrard...

…again. Someone who’d get the team flowing around him.

Maybe even worse ...

since in the NT they don’t have to play next to each other day in day out

of course, it could have improved by playing together too

i don't think it would've been good

too much overlap. having Essien as the box-to-box was much better.

by dojothecat on Feb 18, 2012 2:59 PM GMT up reply actions

Agree

While there is a small chance they could have gotten well along with each other I doubt they could ever form a prospering partnership and that’s why I’m glad that transfer was blown all over

Gerrard is what Lampard should be.

He’s a proper AM, but we couldn’t just ditch Lamps.

by Kevin Kostka on Feb 18, 2012 3:00 PM GMT up reply actions

I agree Gerrard brings to a team that Lampard doesn't offer

but at that time (we’re talking of summer 2005) Lampard was offering too much for us to simply get rid of him just because Gerrard had a better passing range

Tor ilisar'thera'nal!

by Maiev on Feb 18, 2012 3:03 PM GMT up reply actions

It's one of those things where long-term...

…Gerrard was the better option. We could have had strikers who thrive off a No. 10 type, but the Lampard-Drogba combination that’s nearly unique in football was working too well.

Author and Official Fernando Torres Apologist for We Ain't Got No History!

by Kevin Kostka on Feb 18, 2012 3:06 PM GMT up reply actions

i for one

am quite happy we’ve had Lampard.

by dojothecat on Feb 18, 2012 3:07 PM GMT up reply actions

I think either way would have been just as successful...

…but we couldn’t exactly scrap what we had to change to the more-conventional plan.

Author and Official Fernando Torres Apologist for We Ain't Got No History!

by Kevin Kostka on Feb 18, 2012 3:08 PM GMT up reply actions

Maybe you're right

but then one rule also tells us to stick with the best option we had back then. And back then, it was Lampard/Essien/Drogba. Gerrard would not have fit in that jigsaw … and it’s difficult to say now if a Gerrard/Drogba-partnership would have been better. And I highly doubt we’d get another striker for Gerrard’s abilities.

I loved seeing Essien in a Chelsea shit

Drogba, Essien, and Carvalho best signings we’ve had since Zola…

Lukaku is 18, Sturridge plays as a wide forward

and Torres is utter shite. we need a new CF til Lukaku is ready.

by dojothecat on Feb 18, 2012 3:34 PM GMT up reply actions

Sturridge may still yet be the answer, or Lukaku may still yet develop into the answer

But our midfield (attacking or general midfield) really needs so much help. Just so much.

thanks

he seemed to switch over to the left side for good chunks of time though, and i rather liked him there. seems to make sense to have him on his stronger left foot for passing (though not for cutting in and taking a million shots).

by dojothecat on Feb 18, 2012 2:50 PM GMT up reply actions

thanks

argh … something is up with the posting. it seemed Sturridge did switch over to the left and i rather liked him there, on his stronger foot for passing.

Why not....

I believe we have some games against the relegation threatened teams LOL

by Rohi D on Feb 18, 2012 2:49 PM GMT up reply actions

So we now doubt we would win any game of the year?

Well, the year is still young … and not to forget we’re still the side that draw 3-3 with Manu

Tor ilisar'thera'nal!

by Maiev on Feb 18, 2012 2:57 PM GMT up reply actions

Yeah..We were 3 nil up at one point :p

I wonder, how can one draw any inspiration from that game ??

by Rohi D on Feb 18, 2012 2:58 PM GMT up reply actions

Morale-wise

I wonder what would have happened to us if we’d won that game by 3-0. That would have given a morale-boost … or would be have went down the same way?

Tor ilisar'thera'nal!

by Maiev on Feb 18, 2012 3:01 PM GMT up reply actions

it was Man U who did not deserve the 3 goals

by the third goal we were playing quite well and looked to be about to open a can of whup ass.

by dojothecat on Feb 18, 2012 3:03 PM GMT up reply actions

Yes, agree with that

if they deserved any of the goals then only because we were too clumsy to gift them the goals/pens

Tor ilisar'thera'nal!

by Maiev on Feb 18, 2012 3:05 PM GMT up reply actions

one pen was clumsy, the other nonexistent

the second one really took the wind out of our sails
