Must-Read On John Terry And Racism
I can't believe I'm linking the Mail again, but Martin Samuel's piece on John Terry and the racism allegations is excellent.

It's really well said.
I’m so incredibly sick of JT being in the news for this and everything else, but he hasn’t been proven guilty. If the club wants to do something about his constant negative press, I’m ok with that. I’ll be extremely upset if he’s stripped of anything before the verdict is reached.
…And I’m not willing to take the word of the brother of a guy who’s been trying to keep up with JT in the scandal race.

I was going to do that but I thought it would be silly....
Thanks for proving me right….

This is one of those things that has already been decided in the court of public opinion.
I can’t see any way people accept a not-guilty verdict, barring some spectacular evidence. That’s the problem with the court of public opinion; It doesn’t require evidence.

Amazing piece.

Agreed...
Pity the BBC website is running the Jason Roberts story….
The strange piece
About this whole incident, is that it resulted from people outside the game looking at some video tape and then building the story. Initially I think there was no big issue from the players themselves. Once the issue was created by the media, the rest have jumped on. Has the England dressing room been toxic the last number of times Terry has captained the team since September? Why would it be now? Jason Roberts just wants to make a name for himself in the media now that his career is on the downward slope.
The problem is I think hes guilty.
I think he knows he’ll be found guilty and delayed it till after the tournament so he could remain as captain. There’s no other reason. An innocent man wouldn’t want this hanging over his head. he would want it gone asap. I suspect he will retire from international football right after the tournament. He will be crucified and he knows it. He may even loose the Chelsea captaincy for it so he’s pushed it to this summer to give himself some time. The thing is he called him a F*%king Black C*&t which for my money is less about the black part which is descriptive and more about the C*&t which is an insulting word. And i’m sure players talk shit like that all the time. But you can’t get caught.
Just my 2 cents
It was a combination of the club finding it easier to deal with in the off-season...
…the players possible involvement in Euro 2012 and the Olympics, and Anton’s holiday in June.
This is probably the best time to deal with it for all involved.

Generally, it's up to the judge to set the trial date
Unless this works differently in the UK than over here.
The lawyers may have some input, but they do not decide the date. Neither does the club, nor the FA. The court/CPS may take the season and the offseason comps into account, but they’re still the ones setting the date.
Wasn't it related to those things, though?
I saw somewhere, but I’m not sure where, that the judge set the date based on being made aware of those things.

I wrote this up (it's like two posts down)
The witnesses are unavailable until after the Euros. You could argue that Terry engineered it that way, but considering that Ashley Cole, who was right there, is a reasonable witness to have, that strikes me as a silly argument.

I'm not disagreeing.
I was just elaborating on the reasons I’ve heard were given for why the most available time for everyone involved.

Yep, you're right
Mr Carter-Stephenson handed the district judge a letter from Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay, who appealed for the trial to be delayed until after his players’ domestic and international footballing commitments are over for the season.

I sort of agree with you
The longer this goes on, the more guilty Terry seems. He should have told his legal team to just do the trial as soon as possible.
The Nigerian Perspective!
I am a little bit sad to read this
because it needs to be said in all that detailedness, though that should be something to be taken for granted
