AVB wake-up call

AVB might be buying a lot of good young talent and building a team for the future, but if he doesn’t turn his mind to the present, he will get sacked long before he reaps the benefit of them. No matter what promises Roman made him, if he doesn’t he wins some trophies or at least comes 2nd in the league in this season (clearly not happening) or the next I reckon he is out, and that is way before Lukaku, De Bruyne, Courtois, Bamford, Piazon, Davila, Feruz and all the other youngins he bought will become proper first team players.

Chelsea has become Arsenal – a team whose manager is so focused on the future he doesn’t see what’s going on in the present. We spend money and time chasing 18 year old boys which will only be ready in a couple of years, whilst our current first team squad is lagging behind the two Manchester clubs and even Tottenham.

Star-divide

Tottenham’s midfielders are Parker, Modric and Van der Vaart…with Bale and Lennon as wingers. I don’t know if one of our players would start over any of theirs (maybe Danny over Lennon) – how did we let this happen??. Do we really want to be like Arsenal and their clown Wenger, saying for 7 years now “we’re building a team. We got a whole bunch of amazing young players and we’re gonna show you in three years!” – in reality they’ve gotten 0 trophies in 7 years and it clearly doesn’t work if you don’t keep your current team in a good condition.

Considering the shaky present state of the team, the De Bruyne buy (with the loan for this season and even the next apparently) is absolutely delusional. Even if our team is fully fit and present, our only wingers off the bench are Malouda and Kalou. Malouda is so atrocious I don’t ever want to see him enter the field, and Kalou isn’t that good either. He’s also injured now. This means were completely reliant on our starting team, which isn’t breaking down opponents too easily either. In the last 8 games, we’ve scored only 1 goal a match bar the game against Wolves…and our opponents included Wigan, Fulham, Villa, Sunderland, Norwich and Swansea. Their defenses looked like superstars playing against us. In short, we need some attacking options NOW.

This season is a monstrosity and nothing else. Before this season started I would have been heavily disappointed with anything but a top 2 finish, and now it seems farfetched for us to come 3rd. Don’t tell me that we were in a worse place at a later time with Carlo last season (in fact, at this time last season we 5th yes, but we had 2 games in hand and only 5 points from 3rd...so 5th with the potential to be 3rd). Besides, Carlo is an experienced and hardened manager who has won a multitude of trophies and knows how to handle these situations. We are now led by someone with only one year of experience (not even in a top league), 12 points behind first place, and 7 points behind 3rd place, and in my opinion, all of the teams above us definitely have better squads, and with more depth too. It was AVB’s responsibility to ensure our squad is strengthened this season considering it proved inadequate last season and several key players are declining rapidly (Drogba, Anelka, Malouda, Anelka, Lampard). The first part of the season illustrated that the reinforcements brought in were not enough, and that the strengthening done by City and Tottenham put them high above us. This means that serious reinforcements should be brought in, especially considering the exit of Alex and Anelka. Instead, we bought only one first team player in the window - Gary Cahill (which technically, is just a replacement for Alex). We’re gonna need a lot more than that to get back into the Chelsea of the days of old, rather than the disgusting excuse for a team were seeing now.

For those who think buying players isn't the answer and the squad IS good enough - well then, something must be done about the formation, or something! Clearly, things as they are, are simply not working. Please, do not tell me I am overreacting - i have the complete right to freak out when we are all hoping to finish 4th.

How do you know this? we obviously have spent more than arsenal before and we seem certain to do so if necessary. The fact that we are struggling in the present does not mean that we should not care about our future, one thing has nothing to do with the other.

Considering the shaky present state of the team, the De Bruyne buy (with the loan for this season and even the next apparently) is absolutely delusional.

I trust enough in the coaching staff and in what ive seen from the Genk matches to see that KDB is a fineprospect but he needs to be playing regularly and we all have seen how hard the transition has been for Lukaku, so why not learn from that.

We are now led by someone with only one year of experience

False, 3 years of coaching to be specific. In those 3 years he won a uefa cup and a domestic cup. It took ancelotti 7 years to win a major trophy.

Everybody stutters one way or the other
So check out my message to you.
As a matter of fact don't let nothin' hold you back.
If the Scatman can do it brother so can you.
Yo I'm the Scatman.

I dont think you understood either of the first 2 paragraphs you quoted

First point – We are becoming like Arsenal because we are focusing on young talent which needs a couple of years to develop rather than players which can start playing now. How do i know this? here: Lukaku, De Bruyne, Courtois, Piazon, Davila, Bamford, Feruz are all under 20. Buying only young players is an Arsenal tactic.

Second point – I didn’t say KDB doesn’t need to go on loan. Im saying it is delusional for a coach to buy a player which will only be ready in 1.5 years when he is in such deep trouble now, he probably will get sacked before then. AVB should be seeking players who can help him now, not in a year and a half.

Third point – I just checked and i see he managed British Isles back in 2001 – that doesn’t really count. He managed Academica as well, so i give you that he’s managed for 2 years. Please don’t compare winning the portugese trophies and the UEFA league to winning the Italian trophies and 2 champions leagues. It is not the same. AVB has never even been in the Champions League until he came here. In any case, you again missed my point that Ancelotti is a manger with experience who has been in similar situations and know how to bounce back from it, whilst AVB is not experienced (even 3 years of coaching doesn’t count as ‘experience’).

The main point of this article was

that AVB is buying players that he will most likely never see play because trigger happy Roman will probably axe him before they grow to be 21. Do i need to remind you that Carlo got axed when he came 2nd, and that Grant got sacked when he came 3rd and even reached the CL grand final…AVB’s plan for the future is nice but he wont be there to complete it.

by Doron Shmilovits on Feb 1, 2012 9:02 AM GMT up reply actions

Why would AvB spend ten million on two young players in the past 24 hours that he can’t/probably won’t play in the first team if he thought he was under any threat from Roman?

by TPalmer on Feb 1, 2012 11:26 AM GMT up reply actions

Again. AvB didn't bring those players in.

…Chelsea’s Director of Football did. How has this not been made clear?

I know that.

I’m pointing out that AvB isn’t that naive that he’s happy to let them build the team for the future if he thought there was any threat of him being fired.

by TPalmer on Feb 1, 2012 7:54 PM GMT up reply actions

Most likely explanation

Is that AVB reckons that his team will eventually pull through and he’ll finish in a good spot therefore isn’t under any threat (very similar to Wenger).

Besides, he has said before he has an assurance he wont be sacked for three years. BUT, considering Roman isn’t the most upstanding person in the world and pretty much one of the world worst criminals, known to have a crazy temper, i wouldn’t be too confident if i was AVB finishing fourth.

He won’t be sacked this season, I’m sure, but if he doesn’t place well or win a trophy the next, i don’t know if he’ll stay

Besides, AVB maybe thinks that his squad is good enough now and he w

Regardless

AVB definitely still has a say in transfers. I think it is very unlikely that if AVB says to Ememnalo or Roman “i need players for now rather than for the future” they will refuse. I’m sure AVB had a hand in bringing a lot of the young players in or pursuing those who didnt (Pereira, Vargas etc)

4th..?? Really???

Forget about Champions league, Forget FA Cup…Let pray we finish 4th…which by the looks of how we’re playing is really becoming uncertain…………

The fact that so many people are freaking out like we're about to be relegated..

..is the fan base so freakin’ spoiled that they can’t see the forest through the trees? As its been mentioned above – AVB did not make these signings the Director of Football did. People need to take step away from the ledge.

Ummm, of course it is

It is being relegated out of the champions league…it means were not going to be in the best league in europe, and it has a big impact of whether players come to you. For example, Hazard said he won’t sign to a team which isn’t in the champions league.

by Doron Shmilovits on Feb 1, 2012 11:28 PM GMT up reply actions

We're going to qualify for Europe

The absolute worst case scenario that we can come up with would involve Europa as opposed to the Champions League next year. Obviously we all want to see the Champions League, and we still have a 4 point cushion as well as a better goal differential. We just drew a good team while playing poorly. It happens. We’re in absolutely no dange of missing out on Europe entirely.

by Stephen Schmidt on Feb 1, 2012 5:20 PM GMT up reply actions

I do think we'll end up coming fourth and qualifying for the CL

but sorry, Europa is not the same at all, Europa is embarrassing for a team for our caliber. And its not really we drew a good team while playing poorly – we’ve played poorly against some pretty average teams for a while now…Norwich Fulham Wigan Villa and co are all in the second half of the table.

You have right to freak out and you are exercising the right

You compared Chelsea and Spurs so I would point out that Malouda and Kalou would be 3rd choice wingers in the Spurs side.
As for AVB being inexperienced we knew that before we got him and most of us were okay back then.

by Archit Arya on Feb 1, 2012 7:16 PM GMT reply actions

Im happy with them being 3rd choice wingers if the 2nd choice is someone adequate

especially Kalou. Malouda i think hasn’t really done much the entire season and he has been getting a lot of time.

by Doron Shmilovits on Feb 1, 2012 11:33 PM GMT up reply actions

With 3rd choice I meant wingers

Without taking in account the side they play
Chelsea: 1-Mata 2-Sturridge 3-Kalouda
Spurs: 1-Bale 2-Lennon and if they sign them they would be 3rd choice. We have a better depth then Spurs. They have a good 1st team but they aren’t that deep.

by Archit Arya on Feb 2, 2012 6:18 AM GMT up reply actions

The feeling

I feel like banging my head on the TV set when I watch matches like the last one. But for health related reasons and with hope for the future, i just curse Malouda and be done with it :D

by ssrinivas on Feb 2, 2012 8:57 PM GMT reply actions

AVB needs to use the experienced players

AVB needs the players that can help him now like Lampard, Terry, Drogba and so on. Fernando Torres beta start to score or otherwise we are obviously going to have a hard time scoring goals. Lampard should always be a starter for Chelsea because of just simply scoring and assisting all the time, Lampard on the bench is one problem. Play their old and experienced players while the younger players become great players in the years to come.

by Lampard08 on Feb 4, 2012 6:14 AM GMT reply actions

I do think that Chelsea will make the UCL and come 3rd at least

Chelsea are in trouble at the moment but can easily get out of that trouble. Chelsea will qualify for the CL and will come 3rd at least. We’ve been in the same trouble last year but still had the belief in themselves to get out of that trouble. So if Chelsea have the same belief in themselves I think they could turnaround their poor season, but they have to beat the teams ahead of them like Man United, Tottenham and Man City which they can beat all of them.
