Torres as a False 9  Playmaker?

With exception of the Newcastle wonder strike Torres scored he has looked an average at best striker, almost never trusting his shot from range as well. He did have good offensive outing against Sunderland and was fairly effected. The Champs League game against Norjaeland Torres did net 2 goals, but it is hard to argue that he shouldn't have scored at least 1 or 2 more with the chances he was given. He seems to make ever chance much harder then need be, but no one can fault his effort.

While Torres has been leading the line for Chelsea he may have achieved 10 or more games where he played to the level we all thought he would as a striker. But if we take a step back, we see Torres the accomplished passer in our line up. His passing abilities are highly underrated as mostly everyone(including me) focuses on his lack of presence and goal scoring ability. Through his career with Chelsea Torres has always shown absolute class and talent when making a cross or pass. He has lost his pace but compensates by dropping deep to try and get involved. That is not really how Chelsea want him to be playing, but he is playing to his strengths.

Is it time for Torres to look into a False 9 role? With Mata Hazard Oscar Moses and many other talented prospects coming forward would the team benefit from Torres not occupying the top of the 4-2-3-1? Making it some what of a 4-2-4. The 3 players behind Torres traditionally swap wings and positions laterally East/West , but if Torres were to slot back they could interchange North/South. Hazard could lead the line at points, then Moses, then Mata, Torres could drop centrally to make the pass and take shots from edge of the box while any of the 3 behind him could stream forward.

Torres makes scoring goals look extremely hard, it is refreshing to see someone like Michu for Swansea wh can score at will when in one on one situations. While I can sit here and say Torres hasn't been the best finisher I would much rather like to point out how well he does pull those strings when he passes. He still for the most part would be at the top of the formation, but this interchange TOMAZACARRES would allow Hazard to float more in the middle when the chances come up.
