In the wake of Oriol Romeu's absence for six months.
Since we could have an interim manager, why can’t we have an interim midfielder too? Or sort of. Someone who would provide cover for that position until the end of the season, who is readily available. Hence we could sign him in January for a minimal fee on a short term contract. By doing so, we could wait till next summer for a big money recruit, while our loanees need not be recalled and disrupt their development with their current clubs as well.
Since it’s just for a transitional period, this "interim midfielder" need not be young or someone for the future (hence no hefty price tags), it should be an experienced player who is a free agent (like Owen Hargreaves) or couldn’t get playing time with their current club (like Mathieu Flamini). They could come in, do a job for us, and like our interim manager, leave at the end of the season, and we could progress with our returning injury absentees and loanees.
If we do sign a player like that, it wouldn’t be our first time doing so as well. Remember Jiri Jarosik and Mineiro?
What do you guys think about the idea?
