Nottingham Forest have confirmed that they will be keeping Sam Hutchinson on loan despite his lengthy absence due to injury.
Sam Hutchinson has not featured for Nottingham Forest in a while, he's been dealing with a knee injury that has kept him out of action. There had been some speculation that Forest would be returning the young fullback to Chelsea, as the club needed players that could help out immediately and not long term rehab projects. Forest director of recruitment and scouting Keith Burt assured fans that Hutchinson will be remaining with the championship club though, and he had the following to say via the club's official website:
"We are pleased with Sam's rehabilitation and believe his return to full fitness will be a matter of weeks rather than months. Sam has already shown our supporters that he is a player of enormous talent and we believe we can offer him the perfect stage to fulfill his vast potential. Our owner, Fawaz Al Hasawi, is committed to providing the best medical care to all of our players."
This should be relatively good news for Chelsea fans, as Hutchinson is one of the Chelsea prospects that is closest to a finished product. I have my doubts that Hutch will ever have a role with Chelsea, but even if his future lies with anther club, it's good to see Chelsea academy products going on to find success at the professional level.
While it's always going to be difficult to break into a first team as talented as Chelsea's, the academy is starting to produce a steady stream of Premier League caliber talent. Hopefully Hutch stays healthy enough to become yet another successful product.
