Chelsea have announced today that Stamford Bridge will host this years Women's Champions League final for the first time.

With the Men's Champions League final taking place at Wembley this year, UEFA have been looking a host venue in England for the Women's Champions League final. Interestingly enough, they've chosen our home, Stamford Bridge to host it on the 23rd of May, two days before the Men's final. Of course, there's a good chance it's related to Stamford Bridge being the ground of the defending Men's Champions League champions, but I don't really care. It's still a nice accomplishment.

Ex-Chelsea player Graeme Le Saux said:

'I have been involved with UEFA over the last few years through Chelsea and independently and the amount of effort UEFA are putting in to raising the profile of the women's game is great to see. For Chelsea to be a part of it shows the support that the club is giving to the women's game, both on an international scale and also for our ladies team.

Following last year's final in Munich's Olympiastadion, which drew more than 50,000 spectators, there should be a great crowd at the Bridge, and it might be a sellout. Unfortunately, Chelsea LFC are not in the competition, with Arsenal being the only English side left. Still, it can only be a good thing for the women's game and for Chelsea. Maybe you should go, if you can, even if Chelsea won't be playing. : )
