It is common knowledge that Malouda has been training with the Under-21s and banished from the first team as he is deemed no longer needed so his departure can surely be expected. In terms of other departures though, I cannot see much movement. The squad only has one area where we have sufficient depth to let one or two leave and that is players who occupy the 3 attacking positions behind Fernando Torres - currently occupied by 'Mazacar'. Marko Marin, Victor Moses and Ryan Bertrand are the players currently rotated with that 3 and due to their youth and potential it is hard to see any of those leaving. In terms of strikers, Daniel Sturridge is a possible departure as he nears the end of his contract but I believe Chelsea should hang on to this man as his departure would leave us light at the top end. At the moment, I only see loan departures as likely exits for players like Piazon and possibly Todd Kane and players like him.
A striker would be the transfer that seems the most likely at Chelsea as we're creating many chances but not finishing them and many names are already being tossed around. Remy, Schurrle and of course Falcao seem to be the media's favourites but I think Chelsea should look elsewhere to all 3 of those. Remy is an inconsistant performer, Schurrle is more effective as a wide man and spending £40 million on Falcao - who turns 27 soon - would be a massive gamble by the club. Of course there are the wishful options, £20 million plus Torres for Falcao seems great but Atletico aren't stupid and we need to be realistic and realise that deal is probably not a possibility.
A name I've heard mentioned has been Vitesse's Bony Wilfried but I personally don't think he'd cut it at Chelsea. His scoring record in the Dutch League is impressive but as was Mateja Kezman's and look what happened to him. The striker conundrum is something that is going to need to be solved in January. Torres has been better this season but recently his performances have started to dip and I feel he needs fresh competition.
Another area of the team we may need to strengthen in January is the centre of our midfield - the double pivot. These two positions are crucial in the 4-2-3-1 formation and this area needs to be as strong as we can make it. Mikel and Ramires are currently doing a fine job in there at present but injury to either leaves a problem as an aging Lampard and Romeu are our only cover.
Romeu. I'm a fan of this guy and I think in time he will be a crucial player but this season, in the cameos he has made, I've been disappointed in the big guy. Injury to Mikel sees Oriol come in but I think we need to make sure we have someone else in our midfield as an option if we want to challenge for trophies this season as Romeu is a rough diamond.
Paulinho has been the one mentioned most recently for a reported £9m but this deal looks unlikely due to the fact he has just signed a new long term deal with the club. In the summer, I felt that we should have strengthened this area of the team before letting experienced players such as Mereiles and Essien leave. A player similar to Spuds' Sandro wouldn't be a bad purchase or Cheick Tiote as I feel we also should have made more of an effort to sign Dembele in the summer. However, Oscar showed mid-week that he could cover in this position but I don't see this as his long term position so I feel new faces should be brought in here. Of course, there is also the popular option of moving David Luiz into midfield..
Let me know what you guys think?
Centre back is another position where I've seen people say we need new faces in as Terry is no longer the player he is and David Luiz being David Luiz. There are greater options to explore for this however, my personal favourite being Johes Okore of Nordsjaelland. This guy impressed me when we played the Danish team in the Champions league with his pace, strength and ability to play the ball. He is also a Chelsea fan and he certainly wouldn't cost much leading it to be a possible bargain for the 21 year old.
Sadly, due to this being reality and not Championship Manager, i can't see masses of money being spent on millions of players. I think £15million for a young clinical striker, Johes Okore, a decent centre midfielder and Ashley Cole to sign a new contract would represent a good transfer window for the Blues. Let me know if you think i've missed anyone off.
