After watching Chelsea’s dismal performance against City and out lack of quality in out last 4 matches, I wondered what is wrong with our team. Was it out leaky defence? Our 3 upfront? Or Torres. The answer is none the fault lies with our 2 holding midfielders, now before everyone starts to disagree, let me tell you why. Real Madrid, they normally have 2 holding midfielders, Alonso or Khedira and now Modric. Barcelona have song and Busquets, Arsenal have Arteta and Diaby. These players are probably worse at tackling than Mikel and Ramires, It seems that for the 2 in midfield, to have a deep lying playmaker and a ball wining midfielder, Ramires is great going forward but he lacks a bit of technical ability often he has bad control only to regain the ball because of his acceleration and pace. These deep lying playmakers help start the attack and get us on the front foot, Mikel is often criticized for passing the ball to slowly. This is unfair as that is his job, it is ALSO Ramires’s job to do this and he gets away with it due to his speed. The deep lying playmakers will also help Fernando as this was his playing style at Liverpool with Gerrard and Alonso feeding him. So who to get?
