I'll probably struggle to fit more than 150 words on this, but thought it might generate some interest;
I've noticed a huge flaw in Mikel's defence in the past few games. Was going to comment on it earlier, but decided (and hoped) that it might be a one-off thing, but so far it seems to be a massive flaw in his game.
Mikel is a very capable of defending, and is one of the best tackler's in the team. He's brilliant at breaking up attacks, and hardly gets beaten. The problem, however, is that, when he does get beaten, he truly is beaten.
He stands flat-footed when a player is coming towards him, which makes him too slow to turn around or move off the mark. With his size and skill, he usually takes the ball off the opponent when they come up to him. Usually. But when they do manage to dribble past, he's suddenly lost, standing flat-footed, and makes no effort to get back or have a second dig at getting the ball back.
Thought it was something interesting in his game, and a flaw which he needs to wipe out by standing on the balls of his feet and being ready to move at all times. Thoughts?
