He's fun, he's a bit strange, and he never seems to take anything too seriously. Would David Luiz be the perfect Chelsea captain?
David Luiz has been a favorite of the WAGNH community since Chelsea signed him in January 2011, and not too many readers here would be upset if the Brazilian was give the armband at some point in the future. As it turns out, WAGNH readers aren't alone in their admiration of the Brazilian, as Ben Lyttleton of Sports Illustrated had an excellent article making a case for just that.
The entire article is certainly worth a read, so I'd highly recommend that you do just that. Here's a quote from the article in which Luiz discusses his leadership role at the club:
"I'm a leader, that's my personality. I'm always trying to help my teammates as I'm a positive person. I'm trying to show what I can be, what I can add not only for the team but for the club. I always try to understand the mystique of a club and how I can represent it on or off the field. I talk about that a lot with Oscar and Ramires. I often say that we are the mirror of our team on and off the pitch."
It seems fairly obvious from afar that Luiz has been instrumental in helping Oscar adapt to life in London, all you have to do is watch the pair celebrate a goal to see that. In case that it needed to be made more clear, the center back made some additional comments about helping Oscar settle into life at Chelsea a few weeks ago:
"Oscar will be a huge success in Europe, that is for sure. Maybe he will need a few more kilos but, yes, he is going to be a big success. Every day he comes to my home because we have Brazilian food and he can speak the language with me. I try to help him because I know how hard it is to come to a country where you don't speak the language. I know a little bit about the city and there is Brazilian food in my home, so we joke and everyone is happy."
I don't know if the captain's armband at Chelsea is in the future for David Luiz, but it's nice to see some members of the traditional media taking note of just how fantastic a guy our Brazilian defender is. Don't change a bit Geezer!
