Tottenham Hotspur vs. Chelsea: Second Half Game Thread

Clive Rose

A supreme volleyed goal from Gary Cahill has Chelsea ahead against a laboring Spurs side after the opening 45 minutes at White Hart Lane.

That's the kind of first half we as Chelsea supporters like to see.

The visitors have been for the most part excellent thus far at The Lane. Cahill's goal, a bullet through a crowd thanks largely to a poor headed clearance from William Gallas, was the highlight of the half, but there has been an overall fluidity and comfort to Chelsea's play. The double pivot has controlled matters, while the trident of Oscar, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard has done exactly what you would expect it to do - threaten heavily. Such was Chelsea's control that Fernando Torres decided to break out an array of five-star FIFA 13 skill moves.

A second goal would have been nice - we had a few chances to extend the lead, Mata in particular - but nevertheless this has been fun to watch.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have offered very little. Apart from a pithy spell at the midway point and a decent close to the half, Andre Villas-Boas' first match against his former employer has not gone well. Lacking the creativity of Gareth Bale Moussa Dembélé has certainly hurt Spurs' cause, but Villas-Boas would have expected much more from his side.

And you know, he may get it. We still have 45 minutes left to contest. Here's to hoping all that means is more entertainment from the visiting side. Talk amongst yourselves.
