As an aspiring coach and player in America, I have learned a lot of things that I wish were not true. The US system is very flawed and that is why we can not produce more than a few top players. In my playing career (from U5-D1 NAIA)and in my brief 2 year coaching career that has only just begun, I have noticed that coaches who teach the fundamentals and try to teach their players the correct way to play the game are usually unsuccesful, while the coaches who teach nothing are usually the ones who are more succesful. I have a hypothesis as to why this may happen. Coaches who are set on teaching players the right way to play the game usually get players when they are young, and the vast majority of these teams are unsuccesful because they simply do not have the athletes needed to play. It does not mean these players will never be able to play this style it just means that some need to develop physically. As these teams mature they will lose players who have this knowledge and ability, simply because their team is not winning. I don't know why but it seems to always happen that the coaches who do not work on skill or tactics always get the physically gifted and talented players, which at a young age will make your team succesful. These players who have learned the right way to play the game will join these teams and will become leaders by example, he will help and correct players who have bad technique or make constant bad decisions, making this coaches job that much easier. There are the rare cases where a good coach will get a very talented group of players from a young age, teaching them to play the right way and they will be just untouchable, I've seen this and I've studied under a coach who was in this situation, it was phenomal to see 9 year old boys playing better then my college team. These coaches who teach the beautiful game are few and far between in America, most coaches who teach, only teach direct soccer, attack attack attack, long balls, no midfield involvement, and foot races the entire game, UGLY soccer! Unfortunately coaches are succesful with this style due to the fact that there are not enough good coaches in America. Unfortunately results are the only thing that matters to some people, in the development of players, results should not be top priority, they are important because you want them to be competitive but you want them to understand the game and develop skills that they need to play at top levels. I'm not sure if any of you will find this interesting but it was something that was on my mind, and it is my perspective on it, hope this entertains a few of you. Feel free to chime in
