James Ashton has never made a senior appearance at any level, he'll get his chance at Charlton after joining the Championship club on loan.
Chelsea's James Ashton will by joining Charlton Athletic on loan for the remainder of the 2012/13 season, according to the club's official website. For those not familiar, Ashton has played both as a fullback and a wide midfielder for Chelsea, although he's been injured for the vast majority of the last several seasons and has struggled to see time at either the U18 or U21 levels.
Charlton have struggled thus far in 2012, gaining only nine points in their eight matches played. That total has them very much in danger of being relegated from the Championship, although it's early in the season and their is plenty of time to turn thins around. Hopefully Ashton will be able to remain healthy enough to contribute to that cause.
Ashton has been training with Chelsea FC since he was eight years old, and he signed his first professional contract with the club in 2010. He extended that deal by a year last summer, his new deal is set to expire in July of next year.
