FA Cup 4th Round Draw: Chelsea To Play MK Dons Or QPR Away

Chelsea's reward for a 4-0 win over Portsmouth in the 3rd round of the FA Cup is a probable return to Loftus Road, which you may remember as the site of the Blues getting well and truly Chris Foyed earlier this year. It'd be a great chance for revenge, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves just yet, because Queens Park Rangers haven't actually advanced yet - they drew (barely) 1-1 against the MK Dons on Saturday thanks to a late goal from Heidar Helgusson. Still, you'd expect them to win the replay at home. Either way, Chelsea will be playing on the weekend of January 28/29, and should be favourites to advance.

The full draw is after the jump...

Star-divide

Brighton or Wrexham vs. Newcastle
Sunderland vs. Middlesbrough
Dagenham & Redbridge vs. Southampton
Hull City vs. Crawley
MK Dons or QPR vs. Chelsea
West Brom vs. Norwich
Blackpool vs. Sheffield Wednesday
Arsenal or Leeds vs. Aston Villa
Stevenage vs. Notts County
Watford vs. Tottenham
Liverpool vs. Manchester United
Derby vs. Stoke City
Everton vs. Fulham
Macclesfield or Bolton vs. Swansea
Sheffield United vs. Birmingham or Wolves
Nottingham Forest or Leicester vs. Swindon

United vs. Liverpool at Anfield looks rather tasty, doesn't it?

West Brom - Norwich?

That’s going to be a tough one for me. I like both teams.

I'm quite anti-WBA

Not really sure why, but I’ve never liked them. Norwich all the way for me.

by deg0ey on Jan 8, 2012 6:08 PM GMT up reply actions

Really?

You’re the first person I’ve ever come across who hates them and isn’t a Villa or Wolves supporter.

Hate?

Who said anything about hate? ;)

by dodgerboy03 on Jan 8, 2012 8:31 PM GMT up reply actions

Indeed

I wouldn’t go so far as hate (It’s not like they’re Tottenham or Leeds) I just prefer it when they don’t win.

by deg0ey on Jan 8, 2012 8:41 PM GMT up reply actions

Well, hate is a strong word.

Substitute the lesser synonym of your choice.

Haha try being a Chelsea fan that lives in Leeds

It’s not easy. At least they have Man Utd to hate more. Same goes with when i lived in Liverpool. It was always at least I don’t support Utd

I should think about moving back to London

by Famouscfc on Jan 8, 2012 10:23 PM GMT up reply actions

I agree

I prefer when nobody wins but us.

I'm actually hoping for a Leeds return to the top flight

They’ve been irrelevant long enough that I want them back for a bit

by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 9, 2012 6:13 PM GMT up reply actions

I agree, even though I don't have anything against Leeds.

I know I should, but I just don’t feel negatively about Leeds[, except about the kits they’re wearing against Arsenal]. I want them back in the Premier League. Maybe then I can figure out how to hate them.

I've got the 1970 FA Cup final on video if you want to watch it...

Not sure if the hatred existed before that, but it certainly didn’t help matters.

“Modern-day referee David Elleray reviewed the match in 1997, and concluded that the sides would have received six red cards and twenty yellow cards between them, in the modern era of football.7 Tommy Baldwin and Terry Cooper, admittedly two of the quieter men in the two sides, were kicking lumps out of one another, as the battle began. Not long into the game, Chelsea’s Ron Harris caught winger Eddie Gray with a kick to the back of the knee, an action which neutralised the Scottish winger for the rest of the game. Norman Hunter and Ian Hutchinson traded punches while McCreadie and Johnny Giles lunged at opposition players. Charlton kneed and headbutted Peter Osgood while Chelsea’s goalkeeper Peter Bonetti was injured after being bundled into the net by Leeds’ Jones, who, minutes later, rounded the limping Bonetti and scored the opener.”

It’s certainly worth a watch if you haven’t seen it

by deg0ey on Jan 9, 2012 9:41 PM GMT up reply actions

I've seen it, and I know I should be anti-Leeds after it, but...

…at the end of the day, It was 40 years ago. I know there have been more bad matches since, but I just don’t hate Leeds. I certainly don’t like them, I’m more ambivalent about Leeds. I think a big part of it is that I’m not English.

A big part of it is Chelsea’s history of being the fashionable, cosmopolitan London club. That’s not the sort of thing they really like up in Yorkshire. I think they disliked all the London clubs before the Cup final, as part of the general North-South thing, but that match solidified the hate on us. In some sense, we’re the London Leeds. Starting in the ‘60s, and until Leeds fell apart, both clubs were on a similar track. At first, both clubs were in successful periods and ever-so-slightly dirty, and that was most evident in the FA Cup final. After that, both clubs were pretty much on the same level, so the matches tended to mean more, on top of the past animosity. Then Leeds did a Leeds, and we haven’t played since. I’ve always got the idea that Leeds hate us more then we hate them, and that our hate of them is mainly based on their not liking us. I hope they are promoted soon, though, and can maintain their place, since Leeds really belong in the top-flight. As I said, maybe then I’ll figure it out.

I think the best thing about being a chelsea fan

or one of atleast is that we don’t have many huge rivalries. Sure a lot of teams that used to dominate the league and cups (Liverpool, Leeds, Man Utd) don’t like us because we started winning stuff and obviously we’re not best mates with Tottenham or Arsenal but we just want to win and we’ll never want to lose a match so a rival doesn’t win the league or anything.

Everton - Fulham

Also known as the FA Cup match that will be overhyped by Fox Soccer Channel.

Not a huge shock

Looks like QPR might be under Mark Hughes by the time of the FA Cup Match.

If it even takes place. The way the Rs played yesterday, I wouldn’t rule out the Dons in the replay.

Its Chelsea's time to shine

‘cause all the other competitors are in CRYSIS! ManU with their poor results lately, ManCity have Kompany suspended for 4 games, Liv’pool have Suarez suspended, Arsenal don’t have any fit full-back, and Chelsea have money to spend.

You serious about Downing?

Wow I didn’t mind him for Villa, then hated him for Liverpool, but he didn’t seem like “that type of guy” if you know what I mean.

by dodgerboy03 on Jan 8, 2012 8:28 PM GMT up reply actions

We should note that it is the Daily Mail reporting that he did the punching

the police reports say nothing about who did what just yet. Just trying to be fair, since we all know what a beacon of honesty DM is.

Speaking of the Warnock firing

How do you guys think that will affect the match if we end up playing QPR?

Also, why is the next FA Cup match away?

by dodgerboy03 on Jan 8, 2012 8:27 PM GMT reply actions

Because of the order it was drawn

They pick the home team first; we came out second.

I think it would be helpful for us if we end up playing them
