Chalobah, Saville, and Phillip sign new deals with Chelsea FC

Photo

According to the official website Nathaniel Chalobah, George Saville, and Adam Phillip have all signed new contracts tying them to the club. We had the information about Saville some time ago, but Chalobah and Phillip are new reports. For Chalobah this was somewhat of a formality as it marks the youngsters first professional contract. Chalobah is someone that most of us here are familiar with and he was an unused substitute on the Chelsea bench this past Monday. His new deal will tie him to the club until the close of the 2013/2014 season.

The 20 year old Phillip was in a bit murkier water. The youngster had shown vast amounts of promise in the past, but he's suffered a series of fairly serious injuries in the past several seasons and his contract was set to expire at seasons end. The extension to his deal will see him remaining with the club until the end of next season at the minimum, so at least the coaches and medical staff will have an opportunity to evaluate him again on his return from his current injury. Congratulations to all three players, it's always nice to see the youth enjoying themselves enough to extend their time here rather than explore other options.

What do you think are the prospects of these three becoming chelsea first team quality, Stephen?

Apart from Chalobah, who seems to be the great hope after Josh, I’ve not seen any of these players in action – Phillip was struggling to start in the youth team last year though I thought.

I have my doubts on Saville, but you never know

Phillip is certainly an interesting one to watch if he can stay healthy. His struggles to get playing time at the youth and reserve levels are not due to a lack of talent but a series of pretty serious injuries. He’s one of the better striking prospects in the England youth ranks when healthy.

How about Chalobah? It seems an impressive feat to captain Chelsea reserves at 16

Thanks for the info on Phillip and Saville, Phillip seems to have a decent goal scoring record and good pace. Given his age now and injury problems though there must be worries that he’s not going to make it at the club

Why?

These guys are probably gonna be sold to Wigan or Charlton in a couple of years anyway

When can i get my Dwight Howard Brooklyn Nets Jersey?

And so will most other players in the first team.

Be sold, that is.

Considering all the flak that gets thrown at us for NOT developing youth, it’s funny to read criticism of us actually trying to keep them around and developing them!

its not criticism

Its the fact that these guys arent good enough to play on a Chelsea side

They could become players that are good enough

Chalobah especially. That’s the whole point of youth development.
