I still think it's odd that Cahill is more of a defensive liability than the Bossman.

They play different positions?
Clearly we’re not basing this on their defenses…otherwise Ivan wouldn’t be in the center, either.
It might be that he just hasn't worked with Luiz enough yet
I imagine we’ll see him tonight

If we don't
I’m going to do that thing where I get myself concerned, even if it isn’t entirely warranted. I know it takes some time to adjust, but I’d like him to actually be able to cover for Terry if he has to. Maybe I am just too darned impatient, though.
I think AVB's just not ready to write Bos off completely
What does it say to you/your confidence if a signing of two weeks ago replaces you? You’re essentially done
I mean that Bosingwa at RB to cover for Branko at CB instead of Cahill.

I thought the same. We went from having a very solid player in every position in the back four
(Bane, Luiz, Terry, Cole) to having dodgy players in two positions (Bosingwa, Bane, Luiz, Cole).
Cahill must not be "integrating" as quickly as we had assumed
A straight swap in for Terry would’ve made so much sense here, otherwise.
Exactly why I'd take Cahill
He’s not lights out, but he’s definitely solid. And Bane out on RB is way better than Bossy. Hopefully we don’t get punished for this.

I'm more unhappy about Branislav starting
at CB than I am at Bosingwa at RB. I love Ivan at RB, hate him at CB
by AmericanChelseaFans on Jan 31, 2012 7:20 PM GMT up reply actions
Ivanovic is pretty unreliable at CB.
But I really like him at RB. Bosingwa needs to be benched for this one. And I’d like to see Cahill.

still think it makes more sense to give him 60 minutes and then bring malouda
on as a change as an attacking threat (not that we have a like for like defensive sub to shore things on)
I'd rather do that against United
He’s definitely not going to be ready for two outings like that yet

hope bosingwa has the worst game of his life and AVB buys Azpilicueta before time runs out
but we still win like 5-0 with nando scoring all of them and piazon, cahill and lukaku all sub on at some point… also we buy lucas moura haha.

Alas, if Bosingwa has the worst game of his life
There is no way we win 5-0.
There is also no way we win 5-0, period. Even if Bosingwa plays like Cafu x 1000.
Torres hat-trick + brace
But Bosingwa own goal hat-trick. We win 5-3.
by FootieFromAfar on Jan 31, 2012 7:15 PM GMT up reply actions
NOOOOOoooOOOOooo
People… we need to stop wishing for Torres hat tricks. I swear every time I see it typed, he barely gets 3 shots on goal, much less near it. It’s like the whole thing about bells ringing and angels getting wings….
Every time you wish for a Torres hat trick, any other striker gets a goal. It is the luck of it, sadly.

What if Bosingwa
scores them all?!?!?! And defends like a mofo!??@!?!?!?
That may be the case, but putting in Bosingwa causes us to have to play two dodgy defenders
(the aforementioned Jose, and Branko at CB). If we played Cahill, the dodgy defender count would only be at 1.

I'd be content with Malouda never playing in central midfield.
It works about as well as the fun Zhirkov in central midfield experiment.
It's even worse than Lampard-Miereles partnership
which is saying a lot
by FootieFromAfar on Jan 31, 2012 7:25 PM GMT up reply actions
I don't get why
AVB waits to play this formation. As we’ve witnessed we become much better when Mata goes in the middle even if its Malouda on the left.
But would AVB actually switch to the requisite 4-2-3-1?
I don’t want Mata in the midfield of a 4-3-3. Not enough defensive skills.

as the first team!
I've heard (via Graham)
That’s he’s gone sommat like 6 hrs since conceding.
From what I've heard he's been great.
But isn’t especially great from set pieces.
I'm excited to get him into the first team within the next couple of years.
A great replacement for Cech from what I’ve heard/seen.
Arsenal's undoing was the fact that they had no fullbacks

Has our team heard of team work? In the final third it’s 100% about the guy with the ball going 1 vs. 11 and trying to score all by himself. No wonder why we can’t score.

Well that was fucking awful.
And if Malouda stays on the pitch for the second half I may kill a kitten
Can someone explain why Bosingwa was in the middle of the box and David Luiz was not on that free kick?
Anyone?
Meireles
How many passes did Meireles miss that a 10 year old girl could have made? I swear it’s got to be four or five.
Raul has disappointed me terribly this season...
He is a shadow of the player he was at Porto. We used to have players like Ballack. What happened to us?
FFP
We got cheap and cut wages. Deco and Ballack came off the bench. Today we’re starting three MFs who are worse then them. And our bench, an injured Bison and a kid who shouldn’t have left reserves yet.
Speedy Winger
Man we could really use a speedy winger right now. In fact maybe someone like Sinclair… oh wait.
I would take every single one of our players and throw them into an...
…industrial meat grinder right now. Good thing I have neither the grinder, nor the authority to put them in it.

AVB's roster options
Look at AVB’s roster options. Other than Cahill (who should be playing) who on this bench in EPL material? We really, really could use Benayoun right now. Benayoun is a CAM and we have zero at the moment.
Agreed
However, you can’t fault Benny from wanting a chance at mroe playing time somewhere else
What?
That’s not why he left. We pushed him out because “we didn’t need him” with Meireles.
I thought we loaned him
after getting Mata. At least that’s whose number he got, and Meireles was deadline day. But then, I don’t remember when Benayoun’s loan went through.
I'd rather have Mata in the middle than Malouda
He’s given the ball away every time he’s touched it.
As bad as we played
We were still probably the better team overall in the first half. I wish we could fucking finish anymore.

Switch to 4-2-2-2
Sub Malouda for Lukaku, Cahill for Bosingwa, Ferriera for Meireles.
Luiz-Ivanovic-Cahill-Cole
Ferreira-Romeu
Sturridge-Mata
Torres-Lukaku
At least with Cahill and Lukaku we’d have someone to target on corners if Mata could lift the ball off the ground.
Why would you stick a left-footed centre back at right back and a right back at centre back?

I don't mind not having a lot of possession
we were great against Valencia and Newcastle without much.
But we didn;t do anything with the little possession we had except lose it today
I can deal with us defending deep and counter attacking but we were getting out played
I thought we looked better playing deep than with possession.
We have no idea of how to create a chance.
I think we know how to play it better
But that only works when the other team doesn’t score first. There’s nothing wrong playing deep and on the counter but today we played without possession and then just gave it away. We did nothing with it. We didn’t look in control or even organised.
On other news, someone has handcuffed themselves to the post at the Everton Vs Man City game. What a nutter!

He missed the guy to cross too again. Luckily it hit a Swansea defender. For fuck sakes. We need to re-learn the basics.

Torres + Malouda + Kalou for Falcao
Please, please Atletico be dumb enough to take this.
Explain to me how Josh could possibly be worse than Florent Malouda or Raul Meireles in the last month.
What I'd Give For Chelsea to Have Pulled the
Imagine we could have Aguero and £20M but instead we have Nando
We deserve a point
We were good in the second half but shitty in the first.Essien needs to begin against Man u along with Lampard.
Good?
We had possession but we didn’t resemble anything close to good.
If we had a scoring Torres, we would've won it. If we had a 2008 Cole, we would've won it
If we had a… etc.
Well neither did a scoring Sturridge.
The point is we needed to buy an attacking player this window and we didn’t
On the bright side, we staand a better chance of winning the Europa than CL
So we might as well dropp out of the top 4

To be honest and trying to be impartial
I feel a bit for Swansea. That stoppage time goal was a bit Manure-alike odd, so if they feel they were robbed a victory that’s only fair
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I would love to bench Torres
but if Sturridge is in the center, i don’t know who plays out on the right.
Can I burn Torres?
Preferably on a stick.

Lukaku should be given a chance to start one of these games
He has to be better than torres and malouda, and it will make me feel better that were actually using our youth. Lukaku hasn’t been given nearly enough time on the pitch, and he should be given time
From Stamford Bridge to Wembley, KTBFFH
Agreed
It wasn’t as bad and if you watched it without thread the second half good excluding the crosses and Torres.
u want a scapegoat, blame torres or avb
but be strong n accept swans were a better side if u r a chelsea fan…n stay WITH THE TEAM #hateplasticfans
Swansea was better? No. We just sucked too. Nobody is leaving…. Your comment makes no sense.
AVB or Torres? So they are the only two who sucked?
u dont get what i meant..do u?? :hmph:
i mean they r the ones blamed everytime for team’s failure
Lol this is just airing a few opinions
Swansea from what I heard were not the better side throughout…first half definitely, but we got back into it later. We’re all with the team,we just recognise the need for changes instead of blind belief.

swansea did come to play and really swarmed our guys in the midfield
chelsea should have won this long before stoppage time but I do agree that swansea does deserve a bit of credit for how well they played

Torres and Malouda were poor
But that was easily the worst performance I’ve ever seen out of Ashley Cole. I thought Bossy, Luiz, Brani, and Romeu were all excellent today.
by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 31, 2012 9:49 PM GMT reply actions
Essien added a lot too, he didn't have too many mistakes beside the wayward volley IMO
From Stamford Bridge to Wembley, KTBFFH
Cole was out of his mind
He for the first time looked like challenging. He was pissed at Dyer’s ugly face.
I thought the Bossman was average at best.

Cole produced one good cross the whole game
And no one attacked that. It was only good thing he did in the whole match and Sturridge didn’t bother to get to it.
it better be bertrand or shits gonna go down

Another sad fact: Our strikers havent scored in 2012 yet. Last Goal: Drogba 31.12.2011 against A.Villa from a penalty.
hope hazard or lucas didnt pick tonight to watch us and see what kind of a team we were

I thought Mata and Sturridge were ok
Not particularly good, but they weren’t overly awful either
by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 31, 2012 9:55 PM GMT up reply actions
Apart from Sturridge taking some over ambitious shots
I thought he played well. I think we need to start scoring an extra goal every match. Then we’d be fine.
No way we deserved a point
We looked awful – and Torres will continue to struggle while we play in this formation. When he receives the ball on the wing he is completely out of position but the run of play forces him over there. THANK GOD COLE SAW RED SO WE CAN FINALLY PLAY BERTRAND or someone else in that position.
Very lucky, but sometimes, everyone needs a little luck.

What is AVB saying?
Besides the usual “we were unlucky and didn’t take our chances”.
hat could you say to motivate that bunch

Well at least since he is constantly mentioning motivation ...
he at least seems to know he needs to do something …
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
He is saying

If I was Abramovic!
I would try to sign at least 7 top class players before the start of next season!I mean players to actually start matches not just add to the squad! That’s what it is going to take to turn Chelsea into title challengers again!
We just need maybe 2-3 players actually....
A playmaker and a winger,primarily. And a right back. 7….???
by Avinash Mohan on Jan 31, 2012 10:07 PM GMT up reply actions
Do you really believe we could win the league by adding just 2-3 players?
Maybe I’m overreacting since I’m pissed off at that performance and we probably don’t need 7(a few hours ago I would have thought 3 would do the job). Right back is an obvious requirement but I feel we could also do with a left back since Cole has been getting gradually worse for a year and a half now and really struggles against anyone with pace, so perhaps we should replace him rather than let the downward spiral continue. I have given up hope of Torres ever becoming a world class striker again so I feel that’s another position that needs filling. Cech hasn’t been a world class keeper since the head injury and cost us numerous points this season, nearly cost a goal tonight too with that clanger in the first half. Somebody in the Modric mould in midfield might not be completely necessary but it would be nice! And since I’m in fantasy land here I’ll throw in Hazard and Lucas for the craic!
by conorjmartin on Jan 31, 2012 10:27 PM GMT up reply actions
Ah, fuck it, let's just buy a new team.
I’m sure they’ll play like the Magical Magyars right away. 5 years unbeaten, here we come!
until saturday when he does something stupid and costs us a goal agianst united

NEVER!
In all seriousness, Bosingwa tends to up his game for the “big” matches. Man City at home was pretty great. Spurs away was pretty great.
sorry i just cant share your enthusiasm bout boss. He scares me just about as much as Luiz
by Blue Till I Die!!! on Jan 31, 2012 10:09 PM GMT up reply actions
I fail to see how any of those two can scare you when A.Cole is frolicking around on the left
His greatest skill nowadays is looking even more jackass-y by constantly bitching out the ref.
When he doesnt lose the ball in the middle of the pitch or makes rash tackles which could get him sent off

Because this was always going to be a tough game
That many people failed to understand for some reason.
And then we played like absolute shit.
And yet we got a point!
Fuck yeah!
Only Man u won this fixture
And every one know how they win (not deservingly).

I am feeling a lot bad about the draw now.
by Archit Arya on Jan 31, 2012 10:09 PM GMT up reply actions
Sinclair opened the scoring for them
And Bosingwa hit a cross in off Taylor (think its an OG now) in like the 93rd minute for us to draw. Oh,and we played like shit.
by Avinash Mohan on Jan 31, 2012 10:13 PM GMT up reply actions
Holy shit.
That is way to close to being a loss. I’m kind of glad I had a 3 hour lab during the game now. Way to stressful.
Sinclair and An OG from their defendee from a bosinwa cross and we didnt play great
