Fee fi fo fum

Chelsea, in the transfer market, are done.

I just want, and probably will be disappointed in the lack of

A creative winger (Mata-like) and / or a creative CM. Just anyone to help share the load with our tiny little hobbit man

Interesting

Ravel Morrison to West Ham. Can’t imagine he could get himself in any trouble there…

by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 31, 2012 2:40 AM GMT reply actions

Oooooh

That’s right… the last day has started already. I forget that this ends at like 7pm for me tomorrow.

It’s not just Chelsea being tame… everyone is being boring this window! I can’t believe the whole month has gone by with all this nothingness. I demand more crazy purchases for me to ooh and ahhh over.

Remember that time that we knew we were signing Gary Cahill before the window even started, and then it took almost 3 weeks to get him?

by alynne4307 on Jan 31, 2012 2:41 AM GMT reply actions

We actually got him a lot sooner

You just couldn’t tell because you don’t have HD

by FootieFromAfar on Jan 31, 2012 3:13 AM GMT up reply actions

I knew it would come back

to haunt me more than I ever could have imagined, that I didn’t buy the HD package.

by alynne4307 on Jan 31, 2012 5:06 AM GMT up reply actions

i cant imagine we wont sign anyone today!

other than de bruyne, we have been targeting a left wing, so watch it turn out to be a 28 year old from liverool, we will buy Maxi Rodriguez haha

by blue_is_the_colour on Jan 31, 2012 4:15 AM GMT reply actions

Is that because we signed Torres since he used to score against us...

I guess Maxi too has scored in last two meeting against us !!!

by Rohi D on Jan 31, 2012 4:53 AM GMT up reply actions

I can't hate Maxi

One of my favorite goals (and goal calls) of all time:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI3kvWjDXVg

Rodriguez, [?? gol], RODRIGUEZ, OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH

by DPeezy on Jan 31, 2012 6:00 AM GMT up reply actions

I also love the fact that the move starts essentially with Maxi

And if you watch, you can just see him slowly jogging up the right side as everybody’s attention is diverted with Messi and his ball out to the left.

by DPeezy on Jan 31, 2012 6:11 AM GMT up reply actions

So what's everyone actually expecting today?

I think we’ll end up going hard after Lucas Moura and do something (perhaps minor) completely out of the blue on top of that.

by Graham MacAree on Jan 31, 2012 4:27 AM GMT reply actions

Expecting?

De Bruyne and nothing else.

Hoping?

Eden Hazard (I know, I know) or Lucas Moura. Maybe even a creative CM type. But I’m trying to keep grounded and not get my hopes up too much.

by FootieFromAfar on Jan 31, 2012 4:33 AM GMT up reply actions

I wouldn't be surprised if we heard a bunch of Paul Pogba talk start up soon

I doubt we pull the trigger, but I really think he’s coming here when his contract expires this June

by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 31, 2012 4:55 AM GMT up reply actions

Can't we offer him a contract at any point between now and the end of his contract?

It would be weird to buy him, since he’s one for the future.

by Kevin Kostka on Jan 31, 2012 5:18 AM GMT up reply actions

We can, but then we get to deal with a tribunal

I can’t imagine United particularly would really want Pogba hanging around until June when he’s under contract here anyway.

by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 31, 2012 9:39 AM GMT up reply actions

I expect a big fat nothing.

I think we’re done.

I’m just hoping for a good result.

This.

I just want to finish TOP4.

Just read on a TNC post on FB that

Roman is apprehensive to spend huge sums of money on the deadline day after what happened last year…
A EspnStar source is also saying the same thing…we may not break the bank today…

by msreya on Jan 31, 2012 5:28 AM GMT via mobile reply actions

The more I think about it, the more the Josh loan to Swansea might be our most important move this window

Sturridge’s loan spell last season was what ultimately catapulted him to the status of every day starter this season. If Josh’a loan goes as well as that, we might finally get the creative CM we’ve been pining for, and on a free at that. Could be huge.

by FootieFromAfar on Jan 31, 2012 5:48 AM GMT via mobile reply actions

Just in case anyone gets confused later

The Italian transfer window closes at 7PM CET, rather than midnight, for incoming transfers only. That means no Italian club can buy players after 7PM, but they can still sell players to clubs where the deadline is midnight, e.g. England.
So, hypothetically, Chelsea could buy Montolivo at 9PM but Fiorentina wouldn’t be able to buy a replacement.

by Al Benson on Jan 31, 2012 7:59 AM GMT reply actions

It's odd that transfer deadline day

is about as dead as I have ever seen this site as far as comments goes.

by Kjell on Jan 31, 2012 8:44 AM GMT reply actions

It's because there are so many posts

There were more comments than usual yesterday, but they were spread out over tonnes and tonnes of posts

by Graham MacAree on Jan 31, 2012 8:47 AM GMT up reply actions

I can only hope.

I’m stuck staying up late tonight so I can pick up a friend when he’s done with work. I don’t want to start a book when I’m this tired so the reading material on here has been a life saver.

by Kjell on Jan 31, 2012 8:57 AM GMT up reply actions

Sounds like a deal.

So do you think any teams are going to make a big splash? I think this is going to be a really slow year for the EPL but I think something has to give in Serie A. I can see Inter as getting a big name.

by Kjell on Jan 31, 2012 9:13 AM GMT up reply actions

It's how it goes when Graham goes into full-fledged post-mania mode

Usually happens on transfer deadline day. By the time you’re ready to comment, there’s a new post up.

That being said, I expect this deadline day to be quiet and boring. In fact, I’m off to catch a few winks.

by DPeezy on Jan 31, 2012 9:36 AM GMT up reply actions

Johnson for 14 mil

That would be a steal but I don’t think city will sell even for 20mil,with Nasri not performing they would be short of players if they let him go and Mancini know he has potential.

by Archit Arya on Jan 31, 2012 11:08 AM GMT up reply actions

I figured I ought to embrace it. Blame Steve he put it there! I posted a similar comment on the short fuse too so…

I wish for

Moura and Cesaer and maybe even Willian to come thru to brighten up the squad

by GianfrancoZola on Jan 31, 2012 12:37 PM GMT reply actions

I really feel sorry for Willian

We made a bid. His club gave us a reasonable offer. He wanted to come. And then we were like nah forget it. I bet he was already looking at flats in London

by Famouscfc on Jan 31, 2012 1:01 PM GMT up reply actions

it's probably a really good sign for Chelsea though

1. Roman hasn’t forced it through (yet)
2. It might signal something going on with either Hazard or Moura or both (not necessarily today but a pre-deal like De Bruyne)

by b8b8j on Jan 31, 2012 1:03 PM GMT up reply actions

Maybe we think we can get them both in the summer

But if we did get Willian today I wouldn’t be too upset. He’s a good player and it’d give us something we don’t have at the moment. Also with the amount of midfielders we have out at the moment a 4-2-3-1 would be a good formation. At the same time I would like to see both Moura and Hazard in blue in the summer.

by Famouscfc on Jan 31, 2012 1:15 PM GMT up reply actions

Yeah, I mean we were not too far off in terms of

valuation and as per Stephen Schmidt he seems a good player

From the soccernet deadline day live chat

Chris Murphy: Interesting financial news from Chelsea: Chelsea today announced a total loss of £67.7million for the financial year ending June 30, 2011. The club revealed its operating loss had reduced from a figure of £70.9million as it aims to fall in line with UEFA’s new financial fair play rules. Transfer fees were a main contributor to the loss, while the club was able to declare a record group turnover of £222.3million.

by FootieFromAfar on Jan 31, 2012 5:48 PM GMT reply actions

How come??

A loss is a loss…isn’t it??
Although we are going in the right direction by reducing them??

by msreya on Jan 31, 2012 5:54 PM GMT via mobile reply actions

Because FFP rules allow you to dismiss some expenses

Including contracts signed before the beginning of the 10/11 season, which is most of the big earners at Chelsea

by Graham MacAree on Jan 31, 2012 6:00 PM GMT up reply actions

So what's our FFP loss?

Are still posting a loss in those numbers?

by FootieFromAfar on Jan 31, 2012 6:04 PM GMT up reply actions

I'd guess we're somewhere between -20 and -30M in FFP

Just back of the enveloping the -68M without the likes of Drogba, Anelka, Malouda, Terry, Lampard…

Looks David Pizarro is going to Man City from Roma

I’m getting scared. If Chelsea doesn’t sign some creativity I don’t think we’ll make top 4…

The Nigerian Perspective!

by Iced O on Jan 31, 2012 6:13 PM GMT via mobile reply actions

Why are you scared?

We’re not competing with City this year. It’s Spurs and Arsenal we’re worried about, and Liverpool and Newcastle to a lesser extent.

Author and Official Fernando Torres Apologist for We Ain't Got No History!

by Kevin Kostka on Jan 31, 2012 6:16 PM GMT up reply actions

In fairness to Iced O, I do think some added creativity would help us out

We look really helpless sometimes. Especially when Mata is having an off day. It’s not unthinkable for Arsenal to surpass us if we hit a bad run.

by FootieFromAfar on Jan 31, 2012 6:20 PM GMT up reply actions

We may not be competing with them in the league

but in the transfer market they’re our biggest rivals.

by Famouscfc on Jan 31, 2012 6:42 PM GMT up reply actions

This is why their loaning of Pizarro caught my eye

Chelsea should be looking for this stop gap measure…

The Nigerian Perspective!

by Iced O on Jan 31, 2012 6:45 PM GMT via mobile up reply actions

They weren't connected

My problem is that without any more additons I don’t think we can beat City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and ManUre in the league. That is 15 potential points Chelsea is going to lose. We will be lucky if we qualify for Europa at this rate… We NEED creativity.

What annoys me is that we’ve known for over a year that that was our main problem and have done nothing abt it…

The Nigerian Perspective!

by Iced O on Jan 31, 2012 6:40 PM GMT via mobile up reply actions

I don't agree.

I think we could beat Liverpool, and Arsenal, since our defence isn’t nearly as hapless as it was when we lost to them earlier in the season, and I think we stand a chance against any of the others on any given day, particularly United, who are pretty bad with injuries right now.

Even if we do lose to them all, Arsenal and Liverpool will also lose a lot of points against City, Spurs, and United, as well as dropping points elsewhere. We have to get our results, sure, but I don’t think Arsenal are vastly more likely to do that better than us.

Author and Official Fernando Torres Apologist for We Ain't Got No History!

by Kevin Kostka on Jan 31, 2012 6:47 PM GMT up reply actions

i think getting someone on loan could be very helpful

someone experienced and creative, but who we dont sign in summer

by blue_is_the_colour on Jan 31, 2012 6:30 PM GMT reply actions

I wouldn't mind this at all

If we don’t qualify for the Champions League we ainLt buying Hazard or Moura…

The Nigerian Perspective!

by Iced O on Jan 31, 2012 6:42 PM GMT via mobile up reply actions

Almost as if on command!

Cech; Bos, Ivan, D Luiz, Cole; Meir, Romeu, Mal; Sturr, Torres, Mata. – subs: Turn, Fer, Cahill, Bert, Ess, Piazon, Lukaku.

Author and Official Fernando Torres Apologist for We Ain't Got No History!

by Kevin Kostka on Jan 31, 2012 6:57 PM GMT up reply actions

Is that from Twitter? Cause I see another variation.

Cech, Cole, Luiz, Cahill, Ivanovic, Romeu, Malouda, Meireles, Mata, Torres, Sturridge (4-3-3)

I don’t want to see Branko at CB again. Bed in the Cahill-Luiz thing.

by Valens on Jan 31, 2012 6:59 PM GMT up reply actions

Well, that sucks. Bosingwa goes back after seeing the awesomness that is Branko at RB,

and now Branko goes back to the position he isn’t so good at.

It’s a lose-lose.

by Valens on Jan 31, 2012 7:04 PM GMT up reply actions

finally

good to see Romeu back into the lineup. So Cahill still isn’t going to start?

by nsleepy3 on Jan 31, 2012 6:59 PM GMT up reply actions

I've got that feeling.

It’s not too late for uncle Roman to meddle with the squad. I’m hoping he will. Because we need a creative something. I’ve got a feeling something Brazilian is on its way to Chelsea.

by MrMoreton on Jan 31, 2012 9:56 PM GMT via mobile reply actions

I’m genuinely worried that we are not strong enough. AVB looks to be as stubborn as Wenger. I’m very unsure about our season at the minute. We are lacking there is no doubt about it.

how is he different than alex was?

does the time in russia make him likelier to get the permit? alex had four or five caps when we bought him and he couldn’t get one

by jags 1981 on Jan 31, 2012 11:32 PM GMT reply actions

Brian Ruiz and Tim Ream were granted permits this year

They really can’t make a case that someone who’s been a Brazil senior national and has been exceptional in the Champions League wouldn’t be a better player than either of those two

by Stephen Schmidt on Jan 31, 2012 11:41 PM GMT up reply actions

so the 75% rule isn't taken seriously?

i think ream and ruiz both played in 75% of their national team games too.

i guess that “exceptional talent” clause would do it. isn’t that how united got anderson?

by jags 1981 on Jan 31, 2012 11:48 PM GMT up reply actions

Ruiz has

He’s Costa Rica’s best player

by Graham MacAree on Jan 31, 2012 11:53 PM GMT up reply actions

ream has 7 caps since 2010

which is probably something like 1/3 of the USMNT games in that period. i wonder if he was given special consideration because he has been more of a regular lately, when the full team has been called.

i think that willian could probably ultimately get one because of the “exceptional talent” thing, which seems to be abused pretty regularly. i mean, anderson still hasn’t gotten too many games for brazil (five years on) and he cost 20 million pounds.

i suppose AVB concluded that if we are going to buy a winger we should get the one we want in the summer.

by Kevin Kostka on Feb 1, 2012 12:55 AM GMT up reply actions

Even so, 2 out of 3 wouldn't do it

He’d have had to have been injured for every game he didn’t play to make that percentage

by Stephen Schmidt on Feb 1, 2012 12:57 AM GMT up reply actions

Are those all in competition, though?

Friendlies don’t count.
