Lucas Piazon Travels With First Team To Swansea
We're a bit late on this because I'm lazy, but there's some pretty good news on the Lucas Piazon front - the Brazilian 18-year-old has been called up to the first team for the trip to Swansea City tomorrow. It's a big moment for the kid, who's been impressive at the youth and reserve levels so far this season. He's certainly happy about it:
Piazon's allegedly been given #35, and although it seems unlikely that he gets any playing time it's not totally out of the question. With Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou on Africa Cup of Nations duty and Nicolas Anelka sold to Shangshai Shenhua, Piazon's callup means he has an shot of making the bench should Florent Malouda get the start in midfield. Should Chelsea somehow end up with a commanding lead at the Liberty Stadium (which seems unlikely, given Swansea's home form), we could well see him making his debut.
Or he could just end up hanging out in the basket with Romelu Lukaku and Ryan Bertrand. Guess which is more likely!
PS: Piazon's background photo on Twitter appears to involve him karate chopping an American child in the throat. Huh.

Hooray for being low on numbers!
There’s nothing like it for prematurely raising expectations.

Yep
Still, it’d be nice to show the kids that it is indeed possible to get time on the first team. Not that that’ll happen…

I have a feeling it's his new home is in the basket.

It depends on how the game goes, though.
If we’re well up, and AVB has a sub left, we might see him, but that’s hardly a certainty.

Who else will be on the bench?
If Sturridge, Mata and Malouda all get injured then maybe he’ll make an appearance?
Is he ready though?
I haven’t really been following his development. Is he physically prepared? Also, does he have any real chance of breaking into the first team in the next two seasons or would it be more sensible to send him out on loan?
No, probably not, best to loan him
This is a reaction to a slew of missing players, in my opinion.
