Ramires Confirmed Out For 3-4 Weeks
Brazilian midfielder Ramires will miss the next few weeks of action after an injury sustained during Chelsea's 1-0 win against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. The Blues suspected a medical ligament problem after he was stretchered off the pitch at Loftus Road in the second half, and a scan has now confirmed that diagnosis:
That's obviously not good news for Chelsea. Ramires has been their most effective midfielder this season and his driving runs forward have provided the attacking impetus we're sorely lacking without him. The good news is that Michael Essien has returned from his own knee injury and should be able to immediately slot in in the midfield, but it would have been much better if we'd had all of our stars fully fit with some very tough games coming up.
Ramires being out for a relatively short period of time means that Chelsea probably won't be in the market for a new central midfielder this window, but it's a possibility if Andre Villas-Boas is feeling really desperate.

I don't think Essien would be as effective as Ramires...
Oh dear.

Ramires is only better in goalscoring and has more pace.
Essien is a much more complete midfielder. They are both one of the only real box-to-box midfielders in the PL but Essien is technically alot better and is a much better passer. He is also physically much stronger than Ramires.
Essien is a proven worldclass midfielder, Ramires is not.
Essien at his best is a proven world-class midfielder
He hasn’t been at his best for more than a year, and it’s hardly sensible to assume he’ll be the same player he once was after this injury. We’re just going to have to wait and see which Essien we end up with.

I agree.
In the 10/11 season he played below standard. But that was the case with almost anyone in our squad. Only Cech (arguably one of his best ever seasons), Ramires (after the winterbreak) and Ivanovic played really well last season.
Let’s just hope Essien will have his ‘bison’ swagger back.
Not good, not bad.
I think we have enough to get through this, and I’m just glad it wasn’t the end of Ramires this season.

Not least because if it was the end of his season
There’s a good chance he’d be rusty for a reasonable portion of next season as well.
I thought he would be out for months. What a relief.
If there was ever a time for Essien to regain a bit of his old form, it’s now.
At least he'll be healthy in time for the Champions League final
I’d hate to see him miss that

That's a final that I'll be completely torn for...

Final?
Although im a HUGE fan..I highly doubt we can beat barca, real or b.munich or milan with our current form.
Lets see how our game against United turns out, it could be a huge boost in terms of motivation if we beat them…and frankly im scared of napoli :)

Bummer
The man u game has me a bit more worried than before. At the same time, don’t they have a few injuries as well?
Of course I want us to win and think we can, but what do you guys think, would a draw be acceptable at this point?

Yes
Draw is acceptible.. We could beat them if we defend well and score given the opportunity[like liverpool]..nevertheless im expecting man u to have more posession and more chances to score..

Weirdly enough
I think if we were playing more like we did earlier in the season, we would stand more a chance. We put up a decent contest in the second half of our match against them in September… the scoreline didn’t do that one justice.
But given our struggles against lower-table opposition, I’m gonna be hoping for some sort of ManCity game-like performance, which isn’t the most likely thing to hope for.
Plus, United are way worse than they were.
I think both teams are on a similar level now.

They are
but they are also totally capable of pulling a decent win out of their asses. Probably more so than Chelsea, at the moment. :( It pains me to say that, because I really do not like ManU.
Essien can cover the gap
Ramires will be missed though…his finishing’s not great, his passing needs to be worked on a bit more but he’s still been one of our best performers apart from that. Hope we get the old Essien back, though. I wanna see AVB try Mikel holding with Ess in front,Mikel seems to work better with Ess around.
