Chelsea Vs. Queens Park Rangers, FA Cup: Preview
Chelsea's reward for beating Portsmouth 4-0 at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the FA Cup is another trip to Loftus Road. Last time we went that way was one of the most damaging results of the year - a 1-0 loss, two red cards and then a racist abuse scandal involving John Terry and Anton Ferdinand. Obviously, it wasn't the best day in our history.
The loss earlier this season has very little to do with what's going to happen on Saturday. David Luiz isn't going to give away another penalty*. Jose Bosingwa won't get sent off*. Didier Drogba also won't get sent off**. Chelsea are a much better team than QPR, and they should win this game, as long as Andre Villas-Boas puts out a strong lineup. Shoulds, however, don't result in won games - the one thing tomorrow will have in common with October's match.
*Probably.
**Definitely.
And, of course, there's a certain elephant in the room. John Terry vs. Anton Ferdinand. I've said my piece - I'm pretty disgusted with the way some Chelsea fans have handled the allegations made against our captain, and I'm really hoping that the team decides to sit him out for this one. This is the perfect opportunity to blood the Gary Cahill-David Luiz tandem, but it sounds like the team is going to be stubborn and play the captain anyway, which means we'll probably see John Terry alongside Gary Cahill. Yay! Ish.
Also, the fact that this is going to be one of the most contentious matches we've played in our recent history means that we've had the fixture rearranged for lunchtime, and that means I have to get up at 3:30 in the morning to watch it from the USA. I'm not the happiest of bunnies about this.
Now that my favourite basketeer is out on loan, I'm not going to be nearly as militant about getting the kids playing time, but I sure would like to see Ryan Bertrand and Romelu Lukaku get the start. Fernando Torres might need a confidence booster, but I'd rather see Lukaku get a chance to impress over everyone's favoure/most-hated [delete as appropriate] striker standing around and looking sad. Here's my favoured lineup, although I doubt it'd be the one Andre Villas-Boas goes with.
Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Ryan Bertrand, David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Jose Bosingwa; Michael Essien, Ramires; Juan Mata, Raul Meireles, Daniel Sturridge; Romelu Lukaku.
You'll notice I haven't said much about QPR, and that's mostly because I have no idea how seriously Mark Hughes will take this match. If I were him I'd have better things to be doing than worrying about a fourth round FA Cup tie against a Premier League and European powerhouse... but pride does odd things to people.
The match begins at 12:00 PM GMT (7:00 AM EST). Join us here for the match thread and me desperately attempting to caffeinate myself.

Really tough draw
Hostile place to play in so I hope our players will rise to the occasion. Not let the crowd influence their play.

Villas Boas will go for it! It's the only trophy we could win! And...
Torres needs to start. He probably will hardly play when Drogba gets back (unfortunately for the long term future of our team). He has got to start scoring soon, he has been incredibly unlucky. Come on boys!! (BTW, the game is on at 8pm or so here in Australia, sorry Graham!!)

Lukaku also needs to start for the same reasons you gave for Torres needing to start

Karma...
Spending my whole life in EST, I would chuckle at those of you who had to wake up at 4 am to catch the noon games. I just moved to California last week……now it’s not so funny.
Should be a great game though.
That
and when fall asleep the night before, it’s less time before the game starts (I usually get antsy lol)

Just back from California
Four days in Santa Barbara/Laguna Beach/Newport. God I love it out there.
The match start times may suck… but man, anybody living in California is doing life properly.
I must admit...
I really love the area. It’s late January and 78 degrees. Although waking up super early sucks, it’s hard to complain about anything else.
Side note to ChelseaDC: what were you doing in CA? I hope you toured some vineyards in Santa Barbara.

You have to get up a bit earlier actually
At least it takes me a good 10-15 minutes to become coherent enough to fire up the laptop/computer and start watching.
Apparently
we are supposed to sort of keep it on the down low, but, key word is backwards:

Given how often streaming sites have been posted here
it’s still amazing to see this site hasn’t been taken down :P Hey not that I wished it, but I have already experienced numerous sites receiving costly complaints by unfriendly lawyers with users posting streams. It’s sad

Dear Not Happy Bunny..
…that’s what DVR’s are for. :) I just can’t do it — I’m usually on a hour or so asleep that point. But I’ll be watching as soon as I wake up…3 hours after kickoff.

Dedication
You all have it. Not me. I Tivo whenever I can. In fact, I have insomnia to thank for typing this message now. It’s 2:30am here… a 4am wake-up call sounds like all kinds of terrible wrapped up and packaged in horrible.
It's a 7a start if you're on the east coast...but still I totally understand.

Gautam once told me
it’s OK with 2 hours of sleep. I can’t nonetheless
But for me match starts at 1 pm :P

Woke up at 930am
I am pretty much incapable of getting up at a reasonable hour.
There are reports that the whole QPR team is considering not shaking John Terry's hand at all.
I think its gonna be ugly.
I wouldn't either, if Terry is guilty. Despite being a Chelsea I really abhor racists...
The Nigerian Perspective!
Because when it's Terry
innocence before proven guilty is seemingly totally unimportant and only something to be remembered by white-haired legal scholars sitting in their ivory towers doing nothing except writing complicated books nobody cares to read
(similarities to my own person are totally unintentional and therefore, merely coincidence)
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Oh boy....
So I decided to stay awake for this game (it’s 3 am in los angeles) instead of going to bed early and waking up early….this could be disastrous. I’ll probably be fairly cranky.
NOW WHERE’S THE DAMN GAME THREAD ?
...and I'm feeling the effects of an entire night out.
I really need this game to come ASAP (before I succumb to slumber). Are you hailing from India?

No, Germany
DPeezy has written he’ll probably get up. So there will at least be one authour to put up a fanpost
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Line up is out!
Cech
Bane-Luiz-Terry-Cole
-—-Raul
Ramires-Malouda
Studge-Torres-Mata
Malouda? No Bertrand?
Arrrgh....
Great to see Ivan back in the lineup…a bit disappointed to see Terry and Cole (Bertrand and Cahill?). Also, Lukaku better see some time.
by Joe DelGreco on Jan 28, 2012 11:22 AM GMT up reply actions
So that will probably mean
we need to be early 2 or 3 up if we wanna see the big puppy … slightly disappointing I have to admit
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Agreed.
But I can’t hardly blame AVB for fielding a strong side (we need at least 1 trophy this season, right?). On another note, I really don’t care for Meireles as the holding cm…I honestly feel that Romeu’s quick movement of the ball is more beneficial to our attack than what Raul brings to the table.
by Joe DelGreco on Jan 28, 2012 11:28 AM GMT up reply actions
I feel the same way. Not to mention Romeu provides better defensive cover.
It’s a win-win with Romeu, why do we insist on playing Meireles there? This indirectly causes us to play Malouda too…..
The match starts at 1pm here
So I really can’t understand all this waking up business ;-)

Nigeria uses WAT (West African Time)
For half the year, we have the same time as GMT and for the other half the same as CET. We don’t have Daylight Savings
