Andre Villas-Boas Admits Kevin De Bruyne Nothing To Do With Him

It's somewhat-interesting-quote Friday! Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted he has very little to do with the impending signing of Genk winger Kevin de Bruyne, and that Chelsea's long term plans are out of his hands:

You have to speak to the people from the club about [the de Bruyne deal]. It's not within my immediate projects. He's a player the club has scouted for some time. I'm a manager who respects club policy. A club has to look to the future, whether it's with this manager or another. I think Kevin is an extremely interesting player and is a good bet if the club finishes the situation

-Source: BBC.

It's pretty easy to twist that into making it seem as though Villas-Boas doesn't want the young Belgian, but if you're familiar with the way Chelsea are currently set up it's entirely sensible. The manager's job is to coach the first team, and de Bruyne's nowhere near first-team ready. While I'm sure that Director of Football Michael Emenalo would coordinate with Villas-Boas on the transfer of players who are coming directly into the squad (e.g. Gary Cahill), there's absolutely no reason for the manager to get involved with prospects like de Bruyne, because they're entirely outside his sphere of responsibility.

Also, it's always a good time to bring up how good a job Emenalo seems to be doing - he's made some great buys since stepping in as DoF, an appointment which met with heavy resistance from fans, and we don't mention him enough in these parts.

I guess that quote wasn't that interesting after all. Oh well.

I imagine he still would have had at least some input on this.

If, as all evidence has suggested, he’s here for the long-term, Emenalo will have at least made sure he is the sort of player AVB is going to want. I know AVB is more of work-with-what-you’re-given type, but you have to imagine he’s got at least some input.

Well of course it met with resistance!

Nobody knew who the hell he was, besides the worst Ray-Wilkins-lookalike of all time.

In other news, I just pulled a muscle in my back. Having just recovered from a slight pull of my RIGHT trap, I just tweaked the LEFT one. Motherfuuuu…

The dangers of a desk job, I tells ya.

We have got plantronics bluetooth headsets for our office phones

so we can walk while on the meetings. That helps a little with my desk job. Demand it!
But I would cancel all the meetings if I could.

Oh god, don't tell me you're one of THOSE people!

For a couple years, while my company was consolidating it’s resources and business, they moved the marketing/sales guys down right next to the engineers. Many times I entertained the thoughts of utterly dismembering the dudes who were “walking & talking” while on conference calls/meetings… fortunately for everyone, I swallowed my annoyance, anger, and hatred.

But I cannot STAND that shit. Use a fucking conference room. Stop blasting the office with your inane small talk and stop advertising how shitty you’re at your job when you can’t meet your quota!

I think I’ve said too much.

Serenity now.

Yeah?

I’m currently a Sales Engineer at my company. I have to do the thinking and code tweaking and have no choice but to have to listen to the guys trying to meet quota. I even have to join some of the calls and answer all of their questions about how the Interwebz work.

I’m apparently in a contest with you for who has the worse day job. I win! ;)

Dude...

You’re telling me. We have terrible lighting in my office, and when combined with a cloudy day, it just makes looking at your computer unbearable. We have to buy giant bottles of Advil because of all the headaches it causes. (I also steal about half of the bottle and keep it in my filing cabinet, because in my role, I tend to have more headaches than others.)

In case it wasnt clear

that cloudy day with headaches was today.

Oh,

I do. (Just realized I am typing this from my living room couch, and there is a bottle of Advil on my end table next to me.) We also have a giant beer fridge and an alcoholic slushy machine at our office. Both are entirely warranted. I am pretty confident I can file for workman’s comp if I ever need to go to rehab.

I've been really impressed by Emenalo

He get’s a lot of positive press over here in Nigeria and there has even been muted talk of him heading our National Football Association. Plus the recent signing of Kenneth has reduced grumblings that he didn’t favour Nigerian talent.
Looking forward to more talents being signed.

Oh then I mistook you terribly

I thought streaming sites were down, laggy, or your ISP shut you down or something. Sometimes, the most easiest explanation is often also the right one … :(

Yeah

I’m one of the guys who have jobs wives> and stuff, but still feeling like a schoolkid. Last year one of my students remarked sarcastically he can’t believe I was teaching them and not them teaching me :P

I get that too...

But that’s generally because I’m more childish in the classroom than they are :-p

Teaching and being a clown

isn’t mutually exclusive. But some people just don’t like that :(

Your students are probably young enough

but my students are way too dead-serious sometimes
