An Introduction Thread
via www.chelseafc.com - Hey! Its us!
A little while back, the concept of a thread where all us guys/girls/unknowns (Maiev? ;) ) could introduce themselves to our community was floated (actually, on multiple occasions, if I'm not mistaken), but was eventually dropped for fear that it would fall flat.
However, with the recent dirth of "Hello" threads, with new members introducing themselves, I figured it would be prudent to have one thread where all the introducing could be accomplished - by current AND future members. That way the footy police won't have to search for us individually when the time comes ;)
Anyways, I'll go first. My name is Dan, and I'm from Canada. I'm a student in international relations and hope one day to receive a degree in international law. I've been a Chelsea fan for a decade now, but have only really begun to be a passionate fan since 2008 after the game in Moscow (which shall not be named), after my ManUre friends began beating up on the team. I also occasionally followed Aston Villa during the mid-2000's, and even own a kit from that era (sacrilage, I know). I have also recently jumped on the Swansea/Swans/Swancelona bandwagon. My favourite player is Super Frank, and I'm proud to own two kits with his name and number. I made my first (and definitely not last) pilgrammage to the Bridge this summer, and hope to one day see a game there live.
Anyhow....Open Season is now declared! :)

I don't think I've ever introduced myself
Hello. My name is Graham, and I’m originally from the UK but have relocated (twice!) to the sunny Pacific Northwest. I live in Portland, and I’ve been a Chelsea fan since I was about three, since I liked the colour of their uniforms. My favourite players are Josh McEachran, Michael Essien and David Luiz.
Outside of football I am fascinated by history, political philosophy, astronomy, physics, linguistics and evolutionary biology. I really like to read. I have two masters degrees in engineering and spent a couple years designing buildings in Seattle after I graduated, which I won’t talk about because they’ll probably fall down or something. I’m also a somewhat notorious baseball analyst.
My favourite US President is James K. Polk. I like him a lot.
Wow
2 Master’s Degrees? That’s impressive. I’m working on my Masters for in linguistics right now

Cool!
I plan on do one of those someday. Languages are fascinating, even though I’m not a particularly competent linguist.

Regarding your introduction
THANK YOU VERY MUCH (No Mourinho didn’t hack my account, and my capslock key is just about fine :P) for especially mentioning me in your introduction post! Yeah!
You are a future graduate in international law? International private law / collision law, or public law? So that would make you a lawyer, too? I never knew that! Yay – more lawyers!
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Ahaha ;P Yes, it does make me a future grad in international law, of the public variety!

Interesting.
As I get more time this summer we will have to have some conversations. I have been a history nerd my whole life and am in my final year of a Wildlife Biology degree. So if you’re in Portland does that make you a Timbers fan? I really hope that your ties to Seattle makes you a Sounder at heart.

I am a Sounders fan, although not a particularly hardcore one
Which aspects of history are you into?
by Graham MacAree on Jan 26, 2012 3:41 PM GMT up reply actions
All American history is a huge fascination to me.
I am also very interested in Russian and Scandinavian history. Evolutionary history is something I can’t get enough of either. I also love reading like you, a dream of mine is to have a library in my house. There used to be an extremely wealthy man that lived down the street from my family when we lived outside of town, in his basement he had over 12,000 books and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Who knows!
My dad is Norwegian and my mom is Russian, maybe if you are some cossack norrbagge love child we are!
This is an interesting question
Fiction: I’m pretty lame. Silmarillion, A Song of Ice and Fire, Alastair Reynolds’s work… I have trouble getting into fiction because I spend all of my time reading non-fiction. I also have a soft spot for the Brontes, which I don’t really get but whatever.
Non-Fiction: Road to Reality by Roger Penrose is hands-down my favourite book. Intense physics and maths, and I deeply wish I had read it as an undergraduate. I’m just going to reel off a few more of my recent favourites in randomish fashion…
Song of Wrath by J.E. Lendon – History of the first stages of the Peloponnesian War.
The Crimean War by Orlando Figes
Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow
Unknown Quantity by John Derbyshire – A history of algebra
The Scourging Angel by Benedict Gummer – The Black Death in the British Isles
The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee – History of cancer
Minerva’s Owl by Jeffrey Abramson – Introduction to western political philosophy

Ah very nice.
I heard it’s supposed to be a more positive, almost utopian universe. Not sure I’m ready for that.
I actually read "The Emperor of All Maladies" a while ago.
I really liked it. The Peloponnesian War is something that has always interested me so I think I might buy Song of Wrath.
While I read a lot of history book my favorites are Novels about human life. I love the intricate story telling that’s available. I think one of my favorite books of all time is “A Heartbreak Work of Staggering Genius”, the way Dave Eggers writes is other worldly.
“Road to Reality” sound interesting, I enjoy physics but am not super strong in the subject, how would it be for someone in my position? When I say not super strong I mean I have taken some college classes in it and did pretty well but higher level physics take me a while to understand.
Based on your selections
I think you might really like Richard Rhodes’ “The Making of the Atomic Bomb” if you haven’t read it yet.
I suspect that anyone mathematically inclined could read Road to Reality
It’d just be a matter of how much work you put in to working through the maths. I think Penrose explains things really well, and the first portion of the book is dedicated to teaching the maths you need to understand the physics.
It is, however, by no means an easy read.
by Graham MacAree on Jan 26, 2012 9:41 PM GMT up reply actions
I think I'll see if the library has it tonight.
I’m fine with putting the work in to understand the maths so it should be good. I may or may not have been in several math competitions when I was in middle and high school.
Hello
My name is Nate. I’ve lived in California my entire life, except for a year that I lived in Ecuador from 06-07. It was the best year of my life and I’m fluent in Spanish because of it.
I have my BA in Spanish and am currently working on my Master’s Degree in Linguistics with an option in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
I absolutely love Chelsea, since the Moscow Final as well, and I guess I entered ‘diehard’ status after the comeback against Stoke City when Lamps scored the game winner.
Lamps is my favorite player, and over the past year Torres has become one of my favorite players as well.
I would love to go see a game at the Bridge one day. I’ve even contemplated moving to London to be able to go almost every game.
I love playing soccer as well, and have been playing pretty competitively for about 3 years. I will admit that my fitness is not the strongest aspect of my game and I need to work on my decision-making as well.
Well this is already too long lol but that’s me!

Hi everybody
My name is Al and I’m from a tiny little country that y’all may or may not have heard of called Australia. Because of the time difference, so many of the games are at inconvenient times, but I get up/stay up anyway, for the love of the Blues. Like Graham, I chose them because blue is my favourite colour. Hand in hand with my Chelsea support goes my hatred for Liverpool, United, Spurs, Arsenal and QPR.
Favourite players are Lampard, Mata and Zola.
I studied Spanish at uni and am fairly fluent, despite never having been to Spain or Latin America. I also have a decent understanding of Portuguese, Catalan and French. And most South Slavic languages, because of my roots.
Not really a fan of gin – more of a whiskey guy myself, and I do enjoy a fine rum on occasion. And Eastern European brandy (slivovitz/palinka/rakia – DPeezy knows what I’m talking about).
I’ll stop now, and use this sentence to pre-emptively welcome any future new members to the blog.

Añejo 7 is perfect to drink neat, but if I’m going to mix it I tend to use the cheaper ones like Blanco (Mojito) or Especial (Cuba Libre).
What do you like to mix with?
There is this place in habana called “la bodeguita del medio” which is a place from the spanish colonial times which is famous for their mojitos, if you’re a fan you gotta go, is cheap also

Born ethnic Hungarian & raised in what is now Slovakia; moved to Seattle, WA in the mid-90s; went to college in the state of Indiana (B.S. in Comp.Eng. w/ a minor in Spanish); now living & working in Sacramento, CA. There is a decent chance that your mobile phone (and maybe set-top box and/or car) has a small flash chip in it that I’ve helped design.
Die-hard Chelsea fan since Marcel Desailly signed. Still my favorite player of all time. Not surprisingly, I play defense on all my club/rec/Sunday teams…although I’d describe myself as more of libero/sweeper (depending on game situation).
Hate gin. Love beer. Especially Czech beer and especially Pilsner Urquell (the original and the best – the unfiltered/unpasteurized version they serve at their brewery is still the best I’ve ever tasted). Big reds, Gewurtztraminer, and anything Tokaji is always welcome as well.

Hello
My names Kjell, it’s pronounced like chell, and I’m from Montana (yes, we have the internet) and I’m currently trying to finish a Biology degree. I became a fan of Chelsea when I was in high school and saw Drogba and Cech. I love hockey and have played it most my life. I am a Gin, Whisky, Vodka man personally. Don’t ask me why but I can’t stand beer. If you want to know anything more ask questions, I am an open book on anything.
Oh, and my favorite president is Teddy Roosevelt, excluding the whole world world police creating Monroe Doctrine.
Hello!
My name is[ clearly] Kevin, and was born, raised, and still live in Green Bay, Wisconsin.I spent a few years seeking a double bachelor’s degree in the humanities and history, with a minor in German, but saw too many friends struggle to find work with their degrees, so I chose not to borrow the additional $20,000 it would have taken to get my largely useless degree.
Started following Chelsea in 2004, when I started following football in general. I chose Chelsea both because I enjoyed the style of play and our blue kit. I didn’t realise until late that we were actually good.
I have never had a drink in my life, so I have no preference in alcohol. I’m aware this makes my the uncoolest person in the world, and is, according to scientific studies, slightly shortening my life. It’s not a religious thing, I just have no desire to drink.
My favourite president is Johnson Toribiong of Palau.

Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I was in Dublin
in the summer and met two German girls and they said we should come over for it. Also met a guy who was insistent that he wasn’t German and that he was Bavarian. I thought Bavaria was in Germany…
Yeah
Bavarians have the habit believing Bavaria isn’t part of Germany at all. There is even a political party there campaigning for the independence of Bavaria from Germany; fortunately, nobody serious listens to them ;)
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Like the Scotland Nationalist Party
Yeah i say give them Scotland. And then I’d move there. England is run by posh boys. Scotland is run by forward thinking people.
The Scottish Nationalist party seems
at least seems to be a party that has audience. The Bavarian Independence party however is a meeting point for the retarded (it’s sadly true). So it’s good nobody listens to them. And by the way, I don’t even know if they still existed
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Kinky bunch
Whenever people make jokes about the stereotypes of whatever ethnic background they have, I always lean toward the porn and engineering jokes regarding my family’s German background. Much better than other jokes that could be made.
Maiev will set us straight though ;)
Though I know there are some weird
pr0n jokes about Germans, I wonder what kind of engineering jokes could be made of
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Just mostly
that Germans are almost always engineers of some type, it’s just how their brains are wired (obviously not everyone, but it’s a stereotype of sorts, here). Or things having to do with processes…
For instance, I’ll make a comment about the inefficiencies of something and how it could be made much better (even the most inane things), and my friends will say “you are German, aren’t you?”
Oh Germans like things to be run efficiently
right, but I never thought this was down to them all thinking like engineers … OK it’s interesting to see how we’re viewed abroad, obviously! Efficiently is a keyword nearly everywhere in Germany, that’s true – but if we could really execute it, instead of only saying it! I find nearly everything in Germany run very inefficiently …
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
You need to take a trip to the States, then!
You’ll probably have a newfound appreciation for home. I can’t say with certainty, having never been to Germany myself, but my grandparents constantly had to make mention of how much better things were there than here.
I’m a Sales Engineer, my grandpa was a Mechanical Engineer that worked on planes, most other Germans I’ve known have been engineers of some sort (for cars, electronics, software, civil). It’s sort of funny how common it has been in my life, but really is just a stereotype.
Well I don't know anyone close enough in the States
so chances are I won’t go there for a long, long while … if I travel, either I bear special interest for a special place, or I go there to visit friends I’ve stumbled across … but with the US, nothing would fit
Well, regarding German engineers – sure there are many, but not more than in the rest of the world I think … or are engineers behind every corner and I just fail to see them?
But comparing how US lawyers do their stuff sometimes and how we do our stuff … I think sometimes Americans know rules of efficiency we can just dream about :P
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I have to ask.
What’s Germany’s opinion of Americans? I’m always interested in other countries perception of us.
Oh that's difficult to answer
because there of course isn’t only “one” opinion. Young Germans tend to be very critical towards the US … because of differences in the political system, because Germans react negatively to patriotism of some Americans, and because of differences in the legal system. However generally American popular culture is present in many parts of everybody’s life, and it is received very positively … infact American popular culture in Germany is more dominant than say in other European countries. So it might seem whenever Germans speak of America it sounds so overly negative, but the negative part is centered only on some particular topics and the rest is blackened out.
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
So pretty much like the rest of the world
by Sabrina Dessipe on Jan 29, 2012 12:18 AM GMT up reply actions
Well for Germans it's nothing special
they tend to think generally they’re better than the rest of the world. That did never really change
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I now feel very ignorant
for I know nothing of Germany’s legal system. What are the differences that are so glaringly different?
No need to feel ignorant
Germany’s only a little unimportant country ;)
Legal system: mainly judge vs. jury, and the massive differences regarding compensation. In Germany people hear the cases about suing big companies for millions of money without knowing the law and the principles behind, and think “Americans are crazy”. It’s shortminded, of course
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I do have to say
that America is sadly a sue happy place. Not most people mind you, but enough people have frivolous law suits that it gets tiring to hear about.
I'm not sure if I understood correctly
the way I understand your question I would answer with “no”
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
You never know
but since this is a public site where everyone can read, I’ll not go any further

Hello
My name is Cameron. Born in New York grew up in Toronto and am now in University in Pennsylvania. I’m a freshman who has no idea what to do for the next four years, except to enjoy.
I’ve been a Chelsea fan my entire life due to family in Britain being huge Chelsea fans. Never been to Stamford Bridge but would like to before we change venues. I became a dedicated fan during the ‘05 campaign, and my favorite Chelsea moment/goal/player would be Super Franky’s penalty shot after his mother’s passing.
I’m am also a huge american football fan, and on the day of the chelsea manu match is also the Super Bowl to which I have a very strong rooting interest.
My favorite US president is William Taft.
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it
OK CanadianBlue mentioned me up there, too
So I leave some words. My screenname refers to Maiev Shadowsong, a character from Warcraft 3 TFT who appeared back in WoW and turned a badass villain in Wolfheart. My signature “Tor’ilisar’thera’nal” is the warcry of Maiev in WC3, the game, and means as much as “Our enemies beware!”. As this might suggest, I’m a terrible nerd … actually I might spend more time with gaming than with watching football. Yeah.
I’m German, living in Germany. I won’t confirm if I’m male or female, that would just be so plain boring. I love the “this guy is a girl / this girl is a dude thing.”
I am currently a doctoral candidate in law; before that, I studied law and passed my first state exam. Besides this, I work as an assistant of the university and do some teaching stuff. In between, I have worked in
several law firms and was trained in M&A.
I have been a Chelsea supporter since 2003, mainly because I liked Frank Lampard and believed he was going to become a Chelsea legend. He’s still my favourite Chelsea player. I became mad and die-hard for Chelsea in 2005 when Pool scored that goal that never was one. That evening, I smashed the remote of my TV at the wall and damaged both. Since then, my hatred for Liverpool and my love for Chelsea go hand in hand.
I’m a passionate digital artist, and I love painting. I do paintings of Chelsea players from time to time, I also like photomontages and photomanipulations, and I run the wallpaper/meme request section of WAGNH.

YAY - My First Comment
Hello WeAintGotNoHistory,
I have been reading this blog for over a year now and have come to value it as one of the best Chelsea resources, views and information on the web. I would like to thank Graham MacAree, Stephen Schmidt, DPeezy and Kevin Kostka for all of your insightful, well written and balanced articles and comments. They have been a pleasure to read.
I have been a Chelsea fan since I was born at the Chelsea and Westminster hospital in 1979. My first match was Chelsea v Oldham (Saturday 15 August 1992 | Stamford Bridge | Attendance 20,699 | Chelsea 1 – 1 Oldham). The 94 FA cup final was heart-breaking joy to watch, the beginning of the Chelsea rise to what we are today.
I trust (or desperately hope) AVB will herald a new Chelsea that can sustain our winning ways while playing attractive football, without the constant need for Roman Abramovich very deep pockets.
Hey
I’m Pat short for Patrick. I was born in London and my dad supported Chelsea as well as all his friends so it was inevitable. Blue became my favourite colour because of that and only my current bedroom isn’t blue because I share it with my girlfriend. My first match at the bridge we beat Man U 5-0 and it was amazing. I was only about 8 years old. I lived in east london though and most people supported west ham. But there were probably more United and Liverpool fans at my school than Chelsea fans.
When I was 13 I moved to Liverpool (in about 2003) so that coincided with us becoming one of the best teams in Europe which meant I got a lot of grief from all my scouse mates. I live in Leeds now and I literally only know one other guy that supports Chelsea and he’s a bouncer at a pub I frequent. So unless I’m talking to him or my brothers/dad you guys are all I have for Chelsea talk.
Outside of football I’m a massive geek and I love sci-fi/fantasy. I read a lot of books mostly with dragons in them. My best friend and I also attempt to write comic books and screenplays and all sorts but we haven’t actually ever finished a thing. I also play a lot of (easy) musical instruments like guitar, ukulele, mandolin and bass. I kinda wanna be a rockstar but also an all over renaissance man.
That was a long way of saying I’m currently unemployed I suppose XD
Oh and...
I pretty much drink any booze. I’m more of a bitter/ale kinda guy but I drink whisky, rum… pretty much anything except vodka and wine after a situation that led me to have a conversation with my dog at the top of my voice waking my mum up at 4 in the morning.

Hello...
My name is Madhav Behl and I live in New Delhi, India. I’m currently in the 12th grade and hope to pursue a degree in Economics after school.
I have been supporting Chelsea since 2004 (The ‘glory hunter’ accusations don’t work on me), the first time I ever saw a football match at Euro 2004.
My favourite players are Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack and Zinedine Zidane. Oh, and I absolutely freaking hate Barcelona.
Nothing wrong with joining us then
Having fans all over the world is only a good thing.
Hello
Hey there, I’m a Chelsea fan from Singapore, a tiny little dot in Asia, and yes I’m Asian. Of course, my favourite players in Chelsea are Luiz, Essien and Mata. (But Chelsea apart my favourite player is…… wait for it…… Balotelli. :B)
I would actually love to give a shot in making articles here, but other priorities are holding me away. But will definitely do up a nice post in future up here. Do wait for it guys!
Here I go
My name is Archit Arya. I am from India. I am currently in school.Belonging to a cricket crazy country I was a cricket fan till I was about 10-12 and knew what Football was and enjoyed playing it but had didn’t really no clue about clubs and payers. I became attracted t Chelsea due to Frank Lampard and more specifically due to his goal against Barca.Even at that time I was more of a cricket person and rarely followed football. I became a fan when I saw the Moscow final (that’s where hatred for Man u started). Then attraction to football increased and towards cricket decreased (now Cricket irritates me). The true passion started with the infamous Barca game. And now I am mad about Chelsea.
Apart from Chelsea I have a like for Arsenal, Dortmund and Barca(excluding Alves,Pedro.Busquets whom I dislike a lot).I absolutely hate Man Utd . My favourite player is Frank Lampard. I hate CR7,Rooney and the Barca players mentioned above.I also really like David Luiz.
It is already too long so i would Shut Up.

I probably exaggerated my dislike towards cricket
Although I cant watch it for more then 10 minutes. But I watched almost the whole WC Final(mainly cause my friends forced me to and for major time I was probably disinterested). The problem is I kind of have a tendency to start disliking things people around me are crazy about. That’s why I started disliking cricket and the same goes for Man Utd.
I f you would have been born in India
It would have been in your blood. We know how to play cricket even before we know how to write.

It helps if you can find a stream to watch it. I’m currently watching England v. Pakistan, and listening to the slightly-unserious Internet radio commentary called Test Match Sofa.

Hey! This post was recommended! Whoo!
A couple of things I left out, that are quickly becoming standard:
Favourite alcoholic beverage – Canadian Club
Favourite President – pffft, Presidents are overrated. Fav prime minister is Pierre Trudeau
5 Up, 5 Down - A uniquely unofficial look at the comings and goings of Chelsea FC and the EPL
Oh yeah
I missed that too
OK: favourite alcohol: everything local … beer: Dinkelacker, wine: Sauvignon Blanc, Trollinger
Favourite president: ooooh … can I name my favourite judge instead? My vote would definitively go to Thomas Fischer. What. A. Man
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
LOL, how typically lawyerish!
Only lawyers have favorite judges. My wife and both her parents confirm this.
Unless we’re talking Judge Judy, of course. Everyone loves Judge Judy.
But what about Judge Dread?

Meep! Wrong!
‘cause if I have to deal with Mr. Fischer professionally one day, I certainly will be screwed. So I didn’t choose my favourite judge based on present / future dealings. As I do not plan working in litigation chances are I’m not taking cases to court so it really wouldn’t matter to me which judge I prefer and which one I don’t like
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Thank god
Another Arrested Development fan! William Hung and the Hung Jury is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
One of the best shows ever!
It’s also one of the biggest mistakes Fox ever made, along with cancelling both Family Guy (the first time) and Firefly. Basically, good TV shows should stay away from Fox.

I imagine you all can figure out my name
I grew up in Buffalo NY back in the stone ages. The first sporting event I ever attended live was a NASL game (the Cosmos naturally), and I’ve still got the pint sized der kaiser kit they were giving away kicking around in my random pile of stuff. That should pretty nicely sum up where my fascination with soccer began. I also seem to have a tendency to be disappointed by my favorite teams as I’m sure you can tell by simply peeking at my profile. Watching that dribbler slip through Buckner’s legs was a truly fantastic moment in my youth though, as was sitting in the ridiculously cold Buffalo stands when Frank Reich led the Bills back from a 35-3 second half deficit in the playoffs.
I went to a small high school just outside of Buffalo that didn’t have a soccer team. Being 6’2 and 150 pounds at the time, running was probably a bit better fit for me anyway. I continued to run throughout college (and attempted to make some money doing it after college) and then began a coaching career. Eight years later I realized there isn’t any money to be made in coaching and have moved on from that career. It’s pretty cool to see kids you coached at the high school level in the Olympics and NFL though. It was lots of fun, and it certainly has given me a fairly unique perspective on some things.
As far as how I got into Chelsea, I finally had the tools to start following the Premier League in the late 90’s. Some guy named Zola was fairly fun to watch, and all of a sudden my Chelsea fandom was born. They’ve been slightly less disappointing than the Mets, Bills, Sabres, and Nets. I watch plenty of other soccer regularly and am really looking forward to MLS adding the Cosmos in a year or two. NYC isn’t too far away, and that will likely be pretty handy this summer if Chelsea comes to town.

I got my USATF level 1 done while coaching at the high school level and then did my level 2 while coaching at the NCAA level. I also did some training under Jack Daniels (not the booze) and Joe Vigil when I was fresh out of college.

MLS really seems to want it
More specifically they want the 20th team in NY, and the Cosmos already have a world renowned name. It’s just too good a marketing opportunity for the league to pass up. Garber seems to understand the benefits of having the Cosmos name mentioned with MLS.

How about hopping the border to Montreal?
Unless, of course, you’re on the lower end of VT. (VT, right?)
I am quite a bit younger than most people here it seems...
My name is Jonathan and I am 16 years old. I’m Dutch and I’ve lived in America, Holland, Belgium and now Oman. Probably many of you don’t know where Oman is. Don’t worry I had no idea where it was until I came here. Its not too bad of a place, just very hot. I absolutely love football, soccer or what ever you call it. Aside from Chelsea I enjoy watching Barcelona. (aside from busquets) I also like Roma in Italy.
I started supporting Chelsea in 2008 and have been a fan since. Like many others my love for Chelsea began during the events in Moscow. My favourite players playing for Chelsea are Lampard and Essien. I also love Luiz of course. I take it that loving Luiz is mandatory if you are to become a member of this fan site. My favourite players not playing for Chelsea are Messi and Zanetti.
Aside from football I like Basketball and Tennis. I support the Timberwolves and Roger Federer.
When I was younger I played mainly as a striker but I’ve become a centerback/rightback and it has suited me quite well.
I’ve never been to Stamford Bridge but I’ve always wanted to. Hopefully one day I will be able to watch a match at the Bridge.
Hey
My name is Jared and I’ve lived most of my life in Lexington, KY. Believe it or not, I am not dating/married to anyone I’m related to and have all of my teeth. Debunking stereotypes aside, I graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a Math minor and now sit in front of a computer screen for 40 hours a week “working” in that field.
I’ve been playing soccer since I can remember and have always loved the sport, although I cared little about watching it until my competitive playing days were over (not quite good enogh to play D1 in college hah). I knew about the Premier League but didn’t have a team to follow until my brother introduced me to WWSM 2005 in late 2004. Knowing little, I chose “random” team when starting and you guessed it: Chelsea. Robben and Lampard were my favorite players due to how awesome they were in the game and soon I began following the Blues in real life. Essien quickly became a favorite player of mine after watching him play and Mata is entering the ranks as well.
Unfortunately, Kentucky is not exactly a big soccer state (we care much more about our college basketball) so I have not run into very many EPL/Chelsea fans around the area, even in college. Since I love analysing and debating Chelsea soccer, my roomate (Eric) and I decided to start our own Chelsea blog. This was largely due to the fact that we didn’t see any other blogs out there with a good community following and really wanted to be able to discuss the Blues with other fans around the world. Naturally, I found WAGNH a few weeks after we started (no idea how I missed this the first time), but we’re already pot committed at this point so there’s no turning back haha.
Besides playing soccer as much as possible still (pick-up, mutiple indoor and outdoor teams), I’m also a huge nerd and love computer games (FM, Battlefield, old-school DOTA) and sitting around watching movies.

Formerly WC3 RoC DotA
Wow, 3 acronyms in a row looks pretty nerdy. I was more of a classic DotA fan, I never bought TFT. I hardly play anymore because 1) I play Battlefield 2142 (too cheap to buy a new one) and FM more now and 2) I took a few months break from DotA one time and when I starting playing again I saw that 3.7 was vastly outdated and no one played it anymore. I was too depressed to learn all the new characters and items so I basically stopped playing haha.
by AmericanChelseaFans on Jan 26, 2012 6:27 PM GMT up reply actions
True
because if you wanna be successful in DotA you practically have to learn all characters, not only your favourite hero otherwise you won’t be able to counter them. That means you have to study study study guides for hours months years till you really understand how the game works … I’m far, faaar from being a good player, but fortunately, I still know my old clan members and they take the time playing and training with me from time to time. Though I could do whatever I want, I was never really good in WC3 TFT either, it’s just too far away from the AoE series ;)

Hello.
My name is Zach. I’m a CEE major/Math minor at UW Seattle, focusing on structures. I’m planning on grad school, either at UW or somewhere further south with some occasional sun. One day, I’ll be done with school. At least that’s what they tell me.
I’m interested in numerical modeling, statistical analysis, and architecture. Bridges are cool. It really annoys me when people use “literally” incorrectly.
I grew up in Portland, so my first sport was basketball. When I was younger, I thought it was cool that a soccer team was named Chelsea, so they became my team. In the last few years, I’ve been able to see more games and, while I don’t watch every competitive game on six continents as Graham does, my appreciation of world football has certainly grown.
My favorite athletes (Brandon Roy, Michael Essien, Greg Oden) seem to regularly suffer traumatic knee injuries. I should probably start hating David Luiz before his tendinitis turns into something more serious.
Hey
My name is Patrick, I’m a junior in high school and yes, I should be studying for midterms right now. I’ve been a Chelsea fan since 2006 when Andriy Shevchenko moved there. My friend is Ukrainian and I just followed what he did at the time when it came to soccer, me being American and all… I’ve lived in Connecticut my whole life, and hope to go to college in England. I have no clue what I want to study or do when I get older, but i’d like to open my own indoor soccer arena, and maybe coach a team, but right now I just want something to eat. My favorite players are Mata, Sturridge, Clifford, and Lukaku. This is all I have the attention span for right now.

Why, hello there.
First off, thanks CanadianBlue/Dan for putting this post up. I have been really interested in seeing where the bulk of readers on WAGNH hail from. Anyways, I’m Joe DelGreco and have been reading this blog for quite some time now (stumbled upon it sometime in 2010) and quickly realized how good it is. I also think the Dirty Tackle (Yahoo’s soccer blog) is hilarious. But I digress.
I grew up in Ohio, just finished college at the University of South Carolina (accounting/corporate finance), and took a job in Los Angeles, CA doing accounting for Fox. Thank goodness for DVR, because this PST time zone really mugs live games up.
I have played soccer my whole life, and started following Chelsea seriously in 2006, which has since manifested into a full blown obsession. I love the premier league, but also find the bundesliga rather exciting. The bison has always been my favorite player, and I hope he returns to the badass he once was. Never been to the Bridge, but I saw Chelsea play Inter (Ancelotti v Mourinho yay!) at the Rose Bowl a couple years ago during their USA tour.
No favorite presidents, love beer (nothing beats Smithwicks/Boddingtons and a soccer match), am learning to love scotch, hate gin, learning to hate “el classico’s” now, and have a genuine hope that AVB gets all three years of his contract to rebuild the team (even if my own patience runs thin).
Also, if anyone here knows of a good bar in LA to watch soccer games, feel free to enlighten me! Thanks!
Dirty tackle is hilarious.
If you like that, try kckrs
both great websites.
Also, please tell Fox that I want them to give Comcast Xfinity the ability to play FSC Plus. It kills me when i have to stream online.

As you can probably tell, my name is Justin
I’m 22-years old and I am currently student teaching history in rural Pennsylvania. I will be getting a secondary education/history degree this spring, and I already obtained a minor in French. But being that I took my last French course over a year ago now, I’m really not as well-versed in French now as you’d expect of someone who took French classes for over seven years in high school and college.
I grew up outside of Philadelphia, and am a Philadelphia fan all the way in American sports, as you could probably tell by looking at my avatar. I became a soccer fan through watching the 2006 World Cup after school because there was nothing else on. I became a Chelsea fan shortly thereafter when I toured London for a few days, visited the souvenir shops, and really liked Chelsea’s kit in comparison to the red kits of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United. I then remembered that one of my favorite players to watch during the 06 World Cup, Didier Drogba, was also a Chelsea player. Hurray!
I love to travel and have been in many European countries.
I’m not huge on alcohol, though I don’t mind a beer or two every now and then. Wine is all right as well occasionally.
I have a strange affinity for a couple reality TV shows, by which, I mean a few weeks ago I sent in an application to be on Survivor.
The president I most enjoy reading/learning about is Thomas Jefferson.

I’m Martin and this site has become my favorite spot on the internet. I’ve been a huge Chelsea fan since the Zola days and even before then paid more attention to them than other English clubs as I have a distant relative who played there in the early 90s (Paul Elliott) .
Been to a few matches at the Bridge, met JT once (very nice bloke). I’m a Jamaican currently living in NYC.
All time favorite Chelsea player is Zola. Current favorite is Sturridge.
Looking forward to a brighter Chelsea future than even our trophy littered recent history would suggest.
Big ups to the managers, authors and all who participate in this blog…lets keep the Blue flag flying high and proud.
#Chelsea forever!
I love this thread. It's fascinating reading where everyone is from...
My name is Isaac. I’m an aspiring music video producer (yeah, that’s right) but currently work as a Telecommunication Engineer here in Nigeria. Yep, I am Nigerian and live in Nigeria (duh…). I’m 25 years old. I read Computer Engineering in university here. I have lived in a few countries which include Poland, France, England, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Senegal. I have been to Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and Benin Republic.
I’ve always known about Chelsea but didn’t really start supporting them until 2005. My support of Chelsea came around in a pretty similar way to AmericaChelseaFans. I’m an avid gamer, and have been gaming for as far as I can remember. I always use to boast to my friends that I could play any kind of game, so one day one of them challenged me to play FM (then Championship Manager 03/04). Since, at the time, I didn’t like football, my friend believed I couldn’t possibly like the game. Boy, was he wrong. I absolutely loved it. I chose Chelsea to manage because they were the richest club in the game. From there I started knowing the players and catching the occasional game on TV and of course, fell in love with football.
However, what really sealed the deal was when Chelsea signed Mikel Obi in 2006. I was so glad a Nigerian had joined Chelsea and fully expected him to become a playmaking super star (Mourinho had other ideas). Therefore, I could probably say Mikel is my favourite player but really I don’t have any one I like more than the other although I do root for the Africans.
Aside from football, I’m what you would call the “perfect” nerd/geek. I love video games, gadgets, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery/Detective novels, reading, computers, Video Editing and Special effects, Japanese anime/manga like Naruto etc. It’s a long list.
I love drinking wine and Irish Cream like Baileys and Amarula.
Being a Nigerian, it’s difficult not to hate all our leaders so I have no favourite President.
Contrary to popular belief, Nigeria is an okay place. We aren’t constantly killing ourselves or very poor and suffering (Last I checked, I think we are the second richest in Africa after the South Africans) . I have access to all Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1, Budesliga, Serie A and Brazilian league matches live and get highlights to like 5 other leagues on TV. I have access to very fast internet and can watch/stream whatever I can’t see on TV. It’s very easy to be a football fan and watch matches here.
I intend to go to Stamford Bridge next year (hopefully).
I love this blog. It’s the best Chelsea site apart from the official one (no joke). Graham, Steven and all the other regular contributors are all fantastic. :D
The Nigerian Perspective!
Like you, I also find it very fascinating to see from where everyone else comes from
and that fans are scattered across the world – though I’m somewhat horrified to see I seem to be the only non-English native speaker … it must be a wonder I’m somehow understood :D

Why would a restaurant pay more for highly experienced people in jobs where it’s not needed? Surely, if they can be so choosy about their employees, they’d go for people with decent experience, but not enough to be expensive. Then again, it’s Portland, so it doesn’t have to make sense.

Hello
Well I did introduce myself but not properly.
My name is Tanya, I was born in India then went to America for a few years but last year we had to move back due to a family problem. As of now I’m just a school student but I want to be a neurologist, cardiologist, astrophysicist and theoretical physicist. I’m learning French and I know English, Hindi and Punjabi. My hobbies are playing guitar(I’ve been playing for about 7 months), drawing and crying after a Chelsea loss(I am a sore loser).
Prior to last Feb, I knew nothing about football but curiosity made me want to play FIFA with my cousins. Both of my cousins are older than me, the oldest a ManUre fan and the younger a Liverscum fan. First I was a ManU fan for a while but while playing FIFA they wouldn’t allow me to pick United to play against them so I chose Chelsea and then I discovered Frank Lampard and I knew I’d be a Chelsea supporter.
The oldest cousin thinks it’s hilarious to mock me if Chelsea get a result other than a win but my mom says to ignore him, he’s an idiot who is a glory hunter.

My name's James and I'm an alcoholic...
…Wait, that was the intro for a different group.
I’m 22, live in South East England and have been a Chelsea fan ever since my dad took me to Stamford Bridge at the age of 4 (We beat Everton 2-1; yay!). My favourite player of all time is the mighty Gianfranco, and currently I’m starting to fall for David Luiz :-)
I don’t buy shirts with player names on them anymore, because every one I have ever owned resulted in the player in question either being a huge flop or getting sold shortly after (Brian Laudrup and Juan Veron are prime examples)
Outside of football, I’m a trainee science teacher and aim to be qualified by the end of this academic year. I know, boring :-p
As an owner of a Joe Cole and a Shevchenko, I feel your pain.
I also own two printed England shirts, both of whom have had scandals of a sexual nature, among others.

Joe Cole a flop?
That’s doing him a bit injustice, I think. He had many, many good moments to remember. That his career with us wasn’t a prime example for football superstar is unfortunate, but that doesn’t make him necessarily a flop … :(
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
I always found him horribly disappointing.

Some are spectacular flops, some are more drawn-out flops.
Sheva was, and Torres is in danger of, being the first, and Joe Cole and Salomon Kalou are the second. At least in my opinion.

I thought before injuries made Joe
forget how to play football properly, he did fine for us. He was voted player of the year (Chelsea), so for all his shortcomings and somewhat early exit I don’t think he can be considered a flop; of course it depends how you define “flop”.

Yeah I've always had easy t-shirts

Why hello.
I’m Scott. I’m 25 and one of our Wisconsin contingent. I’m taking a breather from school before getting my double Masters in Library Sciences/History from UW-Milwaukee. Once that’s done I’ll be looking for work anywhere in the Pacific Northwest.
Became a Chelsea fan right around WC 2006 and my favorite player is Ballack.
I prefer the Belgian Hefeweizen’s and whiskey. (Not together)
I’m also an avid reader (Library Sciences, gotta be). Love Dumas especially and loathe the Bronte sisters, though I’ve spent more time the past few years really reading everything I could get my hands on in Sci/Fi Fantasy.
I’ve got about 6,000 games of Dota under my belt and have been playing LoL for the last three months or so.
And I love The Wire, The League, Arrested Development, It’s Always Sunny, Downton Abbey and….Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Priestess of the Moon.
And my favorite President is McKinley.
I thought about mentioning LoL
But then decided that my stint with that game was/has been too short for it to qualify for the selective list of greatest games. Speaking of which, I left off Red Alert 2 from the list which is blasphemy. Great old school game.

Hello.
I frequent this board as a reader more than a poster, but I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Daniel, I’m 23 and I live in the great state of Oklahoma (jokes are welcome). I became a Blues fan at a wee age of about 6-7-8 range after seeing a Man United v Chelsea game. As has been the theme with some people, I chose them because they were Blue and I hate red. My brother chose Man United and it’s been a fun rivalry ever since. I have my bachelor’s in business, Master’s in Leadership, and am working on my doctorate in Educational Philosophy. I hope to teach college and eventually be a President.
As far as alcohol goes, me and my buddy are intermediate brewers ourselves, and we brew all types of beer. My favorite are English bitters and Brown ales. I also like most any German beer.
My favorite author/thinker is C.S. Lewis.
I played small college NAIA soccer and my favorite player is Tim Howard. My favorite Blue(s) were Claude Makalele and Joe Cole. My favorite current Blues player is Michael Essien (his volley against Barca was my favorite goal of all time).
I love all sports, and watch and read as much as I can about them.
Cheers!
Props on the CS Lewis
Not everyone can enjoy him.
He is a very frustrating read,
I can say that for sure. He takes very simple ideas and turns them (most of the time masterfully) into complex and too-drawn-out ideas.
by 40A on Feb 8, 2012 7:58 PM GMT up reply actions
And yet...
in those drawn out and complex plots, he can sometimes make more sense than most humans I have ever come across. Funny, that.
It’s funny how differently people see his works though- I was part of a class that was reading The Great Divorce. Arguments occurred in this group and people who didn’t catch on would just lash out on the book saying how horrible it was. Sign of a great?
Are you as bat-crap crazy
as I am? Sheez so much to do.

Howdy.
I’m Ian. More of a reader than a poster but here every day none the less. Been a Chelsea boy for as long as I can remember, so around 1980! I live and work (restaurant manager) in London so go to around 10 games a year at the moment but may try and lift that a little next year. I’ve been around here since this blog started as followed Graham from Lookout Landing and my second love of baseball, where I had already enjoyed his work before.
Favourite Chelsea players – Dixon, Wise and Zola of old and Ramires, Essien and JT of the current stock
As Alcohol keeps getting a mention will go with Lager, Rum – Matusalem and Kraken and Gin – Millers, Hendricks
And as for Presidents I will pass and go for a king – Æthelred the Unready… What a name :)

Hello all
Figure I’ll take a lazy Friday night to get in on this.
The name’s Mike, and as you’d guess from the user name, I live in (Washington) DC. I work in international affairs for a big communications/public affairs firm, helping foreign organizations/govts/companies tell their story in the States.
I first got into Chelsea in the early 2000s, and I’m not sure why. I knew a guy who was a huge fan, I remember reading about this incredible Italian named Zola… and, well, I’ve always liked the color blue. My ex-girlfriend used to laugh at the fact that I ended up following a team because of the color. There’s a reason she and I aren’t together anymore.
I’ve been to the Bridge for a wander around and a visit to the store, but yet to get to a match. Hopefully very soon.
I’m a serious news and politics junkie, and I’d rather read the Economist than just about anything else. I’m also a big sports guy, particularly hockey. I have always been fascinated by planes and started the process of getting my pilot’s license. And I love to travel and have a list a mile long of places I want to go or go back to – Spain, Argentina, New Zealand, Thailand, sub-Saharan Africa, Iceland, Turkey, etc.
Since everyone else mentioned it… I like beer and bourbon. And red wine. And champagne. So I guess just alcohol, really. Which may or may not be a good thing when you watch Chelsea matches at a bar on Saturdays at 10am.
And as for favorite players, I’ll always have a soft spot for my fellow Italian Zola. Among the current squad, Lampard is a legend who I really respect. And Mata is true class and my man-crush is pretty ridiculous.
Cheers all.
I have to ask
Who your hockey team is. I’m a Red Wings fan (Not a glory hunter, I had an uncle that followed them through all the bad years), so I’m hoping you’re not a Shraks/Hawks/Pens fan.
Go Avs
Avalanche fan since they arrived in Denver, and a (brief) Nordiques fan before that, based on a class trip to Quebec City and living in the northeast (and not wanting to be a bandwagon Rangers or Bruins fan). I’ve picked sports teams for some silly reasons, I think.
He’ll never get the credit he deserved, in part because he was a pretty quiet, gentlemanly guy, but Joe Sakic is one of the best players of all time and was a pleasure to watch. And I still wear my Patrick Roy jersey with a lot of pride.

I'd be worried, if I even thought about the Av's anymore.
hahaha. Kidding. Part of me actually wishes the Av’s would be really good again because I really miss being a kid and watching that rivalry, it was beyond intense.
Best in the NHL
For a while. Total hatred. Was a great time.
The Avs have so much work to do now. The talent on the team looks just average – it doesn’t feel like this is a group of guys that will ever achieve more than 7th in the Western Conference and a first round playoff exit. Maybe because they are millions and millions under the salary cap. The Varlamov deal with the Capitals (for their first rounder) was not good, either.
Totally.
I drool over a few of your prospects though. I would kill someone for the Wings to have Landeskog. That kid is going to be THE power forward in the league in the next few years, and Duchene has already proven he is a real talent.
Agree on both counts
Thought Duchene hasn’t been as good this year as expected (before the injury). O’Reilly is solid too. But guys like Jones, Galiardi… I’m not sold yet.
Jones confuses me.
Sometimes I think he could become something really special, then a few days later I see him and he play horrible. If thinks work out he could be a great player though. Still, Landeskog is my dream. I wanted the Wings to trade into the 2/3 overall pick area to get Larsson, and if he went to soon Landeskog was a fantasy of mine.
Argh, SCUM!
I’m just kidding.
Or am I?
I wish we’d just do away with the All-Star crap. The Winter Classic is better as the league’s showcase. (And the playoffs, of course.)
Can't agree more.
The only thing that the league has done right in recent years is the draft format for the all star games. I watch that now, I usually skip the game itself. You’re a Sharks fan if I remember right. If that’s the case then we can agree to call each other scum. haha.
Blackhawks!
Fuck the Sharks (except Patrick Marleu, who I used to watch when I lived in Seattle and he played for the Thunderbirds of the WHL).
I'm sorry to hear that.
Maybe after a few years of therapy you could be cured of being a Hawks fan. haha. As much as it pains me to say it, because I really hate your team, I do really like Patrick Sharp and Toews. Though I fear that Kane is starting to wear off on Toews. I only like Kane during the Olympics or any other time he is playing for America like the WC.
Haha, never.
20 Cent ain’t got nothing on Captain Serious. I don’t think there’s any worry there. Although they’re good friends. Something about opposites.
haha. I love the nicknames.
So are you very active with second city hockey? The only reason I found SBN is because of Winging It In Motown about 3 years ago.
I read SCH almost every day
But rarely comment.
Just like you, it’s the reason I found SB Nation in the first place.
I shunned hockey
when Hartford lost the Whalers. Our only professional sports team…
Added ammunition for my dislike of the Patriots (if y’all are familiar with that whole drama).
He's the worst offender!
As an Ohio State Buckeye fan through and through, I could never EVER bring myself to like that man-ugg wearing excuse of a QB. I shudder to think…
Stephen may appreciate this, but one of my favorite memories was after Bledsoe was just traded to the Bills, and it was the opening game of the season, and the Bills beat the Pats. Balance was restored at that moment. Oh, and go Giants!
Ok, now we may have run into an issue if you're a Giants fan.

I'm pretty neutral concerning Green Bay..

That's because
the Cowboys suck. :) I don’t have a big opinion regarding the Giants, but I didn’t care for them much a few years back in the NFC Championship. However, the Giants went on to beat the Pats, so I was okay with it in the end.
I suppose I need to like the Seahawks by default, because Green Bay and them have a weird love fest of transfer dealings. I sort of like the Steelers.. something about these gritty, cold weather, tough guy teams with uniform colors that look straight out of the 70’s.
The Whale
The Whalers leaving Hartford was a sad day. I was never a Whalers fan, but the way it happened with Karmanos was pretty sketchy. And it was one more moment in the push toward the south that hasn’t really been that successful – as much as Carolina or Tampa has a fan base, Phoenix and Florida and Atlanta (seeee ya!) struggle so much.
I really wish they could bring back the Whale.
Such a damned shame.

Well, this is depressing
You all seem so young AND successful, neither of which I count myself as. And you’re all smart… I’m not really that either, so basically I have little in common with the fine folks here. :) Wall of text, here we go:
My name is April, and I like to entertain two personalities for my sports spectating (the serious fan, and the one that just likes to objectify a hot piece of ass… but I find both converge well in soccer). I like to overuse elipses, dashes, and commas (especially the Oxford variety). I was born in Ohio but grew up in a small historical town in CT, which is awesome (I can point you to the stops on the Underground Railroad and other crap like that). I now live in Boston and work at what is supposed to be one of the bestest SaaS companies ever, and everyone wants to work there, but me. Probably has something to do with my having majored in Music Industry. I happened to graduate a few years ago when the music biz went bust, so I defaulted to internet marketing. I am fascinated by entertainment marketing and law. I really miss going to concerts several nights a week.
Fun facts:
- You’d never know that I was once a decent player with a promising future as a winger, that American football was banned in my hometown high school and soccer was the sport, and that I was actually a FIFA certified ref in middle school. I’ve forgotten most everything that matters about the sport. :)
- I was a bit of an idiot savant … I was/am horrendous at math, but was freakishly good at chemistry (particularly the nuclear variety). I dropped AP chem in high school to focus on music theory, because I am terrible at it but decided to go to college for it anyhow. Damned circle of fifths (and your mathematical emphasis).
- I make specialty truffles despite not knowing how to properly temper chocolate.
- I like my beer opaque… stouts and unfiltered Hefeweizens, please. Samuel Smiths is a favorite brand. I only drink Bloody Mary’s with gin. I pretty much worship (red) wine.
- I’ve no man to tie me down (I know, I know- how is this possible?) because I’ve lived in Boston for too long… it’s a small city and I’ve met everyone worth meeting, to put it nicely. I am overdue for a move.
- I also like American football. Prefer college to NFL, but both are good.
- I’m freshly picked for Chelsea fandom, so my favorite player is the purchase that convinced me it was time to commit to the club; Mata.
- Lorrie Moore is probably my favorite author, but The Giver is still my favorite book. Ever.
- My favorite president is FDR.
- I believe that deep down, everyone likes Seinfeld, and just doesn’t know it yet if they claim otherwise.
Wow..and I do believe I have my first internet crush. ;) hehe

I wish!
That would have actually made it dramatic in a funny way. Actually, it was because in the 60’s some kid died at a neighboring high school while playing it, so they banned it across all the nearby towns. We eventually got it again… the year after I graduated.
Sorry
I just realized I almost hampered your dreams! I think I was mistaken on the story… my hometown has 7 (SEVEN!) places of worship and ALL of the head priests of each came together to ban football in our town. Diabolical, that sport!
Duh
John Lithgow is in charge of all the priests.
Also, I am three degrees away from Kevin Bacon. I checked his profile on LinkedIn. While he summers in my hometown, I apparently have yet to become besties with him.
One of the first partners in law firms who coached me personally

I guess it's high time I introduce myself..
I’m Timm. I’m a 13 year radio vet, though I think I’ve spent about half my life behind a microphone. Four years ago I retired and traded headphones for chef whites. I am and always be a Atlanta Braves fan, though I did at one time take a interest in the Mariners. I actually got published two years in a row in the Graphical Player – covering the M’s. I’ve co-owned my own restaurant, which we had to close in September. It was in Bremerton WA which is just across Puget Sound from Seattle.
I’m now back in Oregon, about 45 minutes give or take from where Graham lives. Though we have yet to actually meet. I’m a Chelsea, Real Madrid and Seattle Sounders supporter (proud ECS member). Thanks to Graham introducing me Gabe, I’m one of the editor and writers for SBN’s Real Madrid blog Managing Madrid, I also contribute to Sounder At Heart as well.
I like cloudy beers, when it comes to wine I’m a huge Malbec fan oh and scotch I love me some scotch single malt not blended..yeah I’m snobby like that. Same way with bourbon, needs to be single barrel and what not.
-When I read it’s Sci Fi, Thrillers or whatever. Just depends on the mood.
-Local Seattle Author Cherie Priest is quickly becoming a favorite.
-While my training is in French technique, I’m all over the map with my cooking.
-Music is a very very important part of my life. And when I say I like a little bit of everything I mean it. Most likely due to my radio background and club background.
Feel free to ask anything else…I know I’m prolly leaving something out.

Hi all! My name is Gautam and I'm from India.
I’m (almost) 19 and I’m a student of Chartered Accountancy. To be honest, I haven’t been a footy fan for long. I’ve been a cricket fan all my life(Surprise!). I totally blame that on our cricket-crazy country. When I was young, I wanted to be a cricketer but then I realised its not gonna be possible so I left playing 4 years ago.
The first Chelsea match I saw was Chelsea vs. Barca. I’ve been following Chelsea since then. My favorite Chelsea players are Lampsy, Terry, Luiz, Torres, Mata, Rami, Cech, Ballack, A. Cole.
I hate Liverpool, ManU and any teams that beats Chelsea(QPR).
And I don’t drink. ;)
I don't dislike tattoos
have one myself.. but I am going to suggest you think long and hard about that decision. I have many friends that regret some of their tats. Seriously… like you should spend at least a year making that decision!
I definitely want to get atleast 3 tattoos on my arms/ shoulders.
And yes I’ve been thinking about that for a long time. I’ve read a lot of articles about the amount of pain involved, the after care of tattoos, etc. so yeah I’m mentally prepared. :)
Oh
the pain isn’t nearly as much as some people make of it, depending on where you get it. What I really meant was you should REALLY think about this idea of a Chelsea FC tattoo… like maybe reconsider it ;) Just my humble opinion, though. If you really want it, you want it.
Yay..My introduction ;)
My name is Rohidas and I am from Mumbai(India). Unlike many, I have my own photo on WAGNH so its easy to guess my category (guys/girls/Maiev) ;)
I had been on WAGNH for quite some time now, Initially I was content with reading all the posts but then I had the urge to get myself heard, so finally I signed up in Oct’11, and since then i had seen this blog almost daily.
I am an engineering graduate and have done my post graduation in Business Adminstration with majors in Marketing. I initially worked as a Network Engineer after engineering and now I’m doing all sorts of work ranging from project management to Sales transition.
Born in India, Its very natural that I do have some liking for Cricket, but it has been decling gradually and verey rarely I watch live cricket matches nowadays, Nonetheless I consider Sachin Tendulkar as my Idol. Apart from football, I do like watching Tennis, F1, Moto GP, Even tried watching Golf(hehe), I like to support Lewis Hamilton and Valentino Rossi.
I started following EPL roughly around 2005(more to do with the fact that cable TV was not so widely available in India-not alteast where I lived) and never really supported any club but simply enjoyed the game.
As far as my love for CFC is concerned, I just cant remember how it actually started but I attribute this to my hate for ManU and yeah the Moscow final, I was so heart broke that day.
My favorite player is (well offcourse) David Luiz but I had been a huge Essien, Lampard and Drogba fan. I do like Mata a lot ;)
I love shopping online, reading books and yeah cooking as well. A regular weekend involves watching lots of football. I Listen to all sorts of music-ranging from Bollywood to classical ones. I also like pop/rock/hip hop music. I like Black Eyed peas very much. I do
like Hollywood movies and My all time favourite list includes “The Godfather” and “Inglorius Basterds”
Just to complete this piece I would like to admit that, I have never tasted Alcohol or smoked cigarette all my life (yeah rare species) and I dont have a fovourite president !!!
I had never been to the Bridge and would love to watch a game live at SB.
I have a fantasy of writing a fanpost on WAGNH that would fetch atleast a thousand comments :)
Cheers,
Rohi D
Oh that was some action...
Timo Glock slowed down on the second last corner allowing Hamilton to overtake him and get the extra point that tipped him ahead of Massa, whose team had already started celebrating and then they realised what has unfolded…

Hello
I’m 21 and I’m from the very small nation that we call Maldives. I meddled in business management and now intend to start my own distributorship soon. Started supporting Chelsea around 2004 and my favorite players are JT, Essien, Drogs, Ballack and now DL. My non-chelsea favs are the original Ronaldo and Zidane. Too bad they’re both retired now! I’m a huge fan of Bastian Schweinsteiger though! :D
Also wouldn’t mind us buying Willian this window! ;)

And regarding kits. Yesterday I finally finished my new edition of Charsenal kits. Well what’s so special about this is that I managed to build up my own 3D model. I’m graduating in Economics (equals to an undergrad in USA) and I’m looking to take a Masters degree or a MBA abroad (The Tree!). My history about Chelsea is certainly a strange one: I’m primarily a Fluminense supporter since I was a baby (my first words, in sequence, were Papa, Mama and Flu), and I didn’t care much about international football until 2010 when a friend of mine gave me a Chelsea coat as a gift. He said Chelsea was like Fluminense: great financial backing from a sugardaddy, not so much success winning titles (even though we won the national league in that year) and a fan base composed mostly by "riches". And I fell in love with it.
Outside sports in general, I’m also interested in engineering, science, politics and history. I just wish I had more spare time (and patience) to read something that don’t involve Economics . I was a machine reading books when I was young, but pragmatism and focus kicked in, and now I can’t "waste my time" reading a good Azimov book.
I also would like to start a blog about football or sports finances, but that’s a project for later. Statistics and Econometric will serve me well in this mission.
Have you guys ever tried Caipirinha? It’s just awesome.

I love caipirinhas
I can’t spell the word to save my life, but I once had one with some muddled strawberries in it and that was by far my favorite one. I live in a neighborhood with several Brazilian restaurants, so I am sure I can get my hands on some better ones.
Great!
I’m not a huge fan of alternative caipirinhas. Imho the original is the best you’ll ever get. But I’m glad to see that the drink is indeed entering new ground.

Ever since the daiquiri came into fashion in the 1970s, there's been...
…a new trendy similar drink every ten or fifteen years. The 1980s one was the slushy daiquiri, the late ’90s, the mojito, and in the past few years, the caipirinha has started to become trendy.

I see
I don’t even like drinks too much. Only a few like Caipirinha and Manhattan are acceptable. The rest? Girly booze.

The Manhattan is inexplicably awesome
For some reason it’s considered dated here and not many bartenders know how to make it (whereas the Martini is timeless).
I’ve had a proper Caipirinha once, and it was quite good I must say. But most places don’t have Cachaça here so they make them with Vodka instead, the morons.
Vodka?
Not even in the same group of liquor :( I’d think they’d at least do rum, if they were so silly as to replace the liquor and call it the same thing.
Which is why they are morons
Funny you mention calling it the same thing – because it’s so hard to spell and pronounce (though not for me :P) they just call it a ‘Caprini’
True
I may be saying it wrong, for all I know. I’ve always pronounced it something like capereenya.
That's basically it
cai-pee-ree-nya, where cai rhymes with ‘guy’
That's a caipiroska, if it has vodka
by ChelseaMariner on Jan 29, 2012 10:45 AM GMT up reply actions
And caipiroska simply isn't the same thing
I definitely should look forward to invest in selling cachaça abroad! Caipiroska is almost a heresy!

getting your hands on Cachaca, here. The package stores in this neighborhood are Portuguese, the restaurants mostly Brazilian. Benefits the restaurants, I guess.
True
Maybe something I can perhaps invest in the future: Brazilian goods. I heard açaà is doing great in Hawaii.

The love the acai here
Don’t even think people know what it is, but they see it on a menu in a beverage or something, and they are all about it.
Indeed
Its success in Brazil is due to good advertising too. And it generates good profit.

Antarctica, but that doesn't really count.
We have Americans, both South and North, Eurasians, both in Europe and Asia, At least one African, and at least one Australian, so yes, by any definition of continent you want to use. Personally, I prefer the six-continent model, North America, South America, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, and Eurasia.

That again shows hiw good football is in bringing from all across the world together ...
and that reminds me everytime I meet someone from a foreign country, football is often the first topic we settle on talking about it for a longer time … I believe I’d never meet friends from Spain and Argentina without having the possibility to chat about football

Also tell South America's best players to come to Chelsea!
I’m looking at you, Neymar!
How many people are supporting Chelsea in your country?
I’m curious. Because, like with Europeans … they are all great football fans but have little interest in Chelsea … so it isn’t surprising there are so few from (mainland) Europe. Maybe it’s the same with South America as well?
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
As far as I know
no – because how could you know where the fans are when they remain silent? An indication would be the supporter’s club … not all fans are in a supporter’s club, but if one country has a big one chances are they have many fans in that country. Or look at fansites … if there is a big big fansite in a foreign country (especially with a strong league), then there are a considerable amount of Chelsea fans there
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Well there must have been some sort of survey carried by market research companies like Nielsen
Because I think its very crucial to market a club overseas!!!
I bet you don't need research companies to find out
that Chelsea isn’t much liked in some countries … in some other countries … don’t know that will be more difficult
Tor ilisar'thera'nal!
Well, in Nigeria, pratically everyone watches football and most of those people support one of the "Big Four" or Barcelona
Many are just glory hunters except, of course, the Arsenal and Liverpool fans who mostly just love disappointment and pain. Based on sheer numbers, I would imagine ManUre had the largest following followed very closely by Arsenal (Because of Kanu Nwankwo). Chelsea (many joined because of Mikel) has a really loud fan base which makes up for the relatively small numbers. Then Liverpool fans are really quiet guys never admitting their loyalty until properly queried but there are a fairly large number of them. Bolton, West Brom and Fulham do have some fans mostly because of the Nigerians that were either there or are there now. Man City has a lot of glory hunter fans (mainly converted Chelsea fans). Everyone’s favourite neutral team seems to be Tottenham because of their counter attacking style which resembles our National team.
All Barca fans are glory hunters….
It’s very easy to track the Premiere League (plus we speak English) over here which is why it is practically the only foreign league that is followed…
The Nigerian Perspective!
Maybe you're right
Not only that, most people in Brazil only got one team and sympathizes with one or two international ones. It’s usual to see people wearing ManUre and Chelsea jerseys, but that doesn’t mean they’re “supporters”. Heck, I’m not a Chelsea supporter too!

Are “trolls” allowed?

I guess I will then and risk THE LASER
Hi I’m Sabrina, known to a few hear as ‘the troll’ or the annoying Arsenal fan (guilty)/closet Chelsea fan(no way). I recently turned 18 and am in the process of getting my nursing prerequisites done. I’ve gotten in to at least one university so I’m very happy about that!
Before the most recent WC I didn’t know anything about soccer and wasn’t really into sports in general, but I picked it up and fell in love with it fast. I was following and rooting for several teams during the world cup, basically all of the ones that I heard were really good and played entertaining soccer. When the world cup finished I was anxious for more so I looked up where and when I could watch club soccer. I really wanted to follow the EPL and La Liga because I found out a lot of my favorite players from the world cup play in Spain and England.
Anyway I got really into looking up teams and news as I was watching the games so I could learn important things about teams and players and whatnot. I joined B/R (don’t hold it against me), and started writing there about a year ago after being just a commenter for a few months. I realize how funny it is that I had been watching soccer for only about 6 months before I started writing about it lol like I knew what I was talking about. But people seemed to think I knew what I was saying. It set the learning curve high for me I guess. That was fun to do for a while until it wasn’t. Then I was invited to write for SBNs Barca blog. And I did that for a while which was how I got introduced to the SBN network and this site. Soooo yeah…

Hello WAGNH posters!
The names Ndongo (The D’s silent), I’m 22 and from Senegal. I’ve lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan since I was 4, so I support the Wolverines no matter how much it pains me. I’m currently finishing up my undergrad in Biology so I can get into med school hopefully to become an orthopedic surgeon. I hate the weather here, so hopefully I’ll be attending Med school somewhere warmer. I enjoy cooking, reading and watching football whenever I can.
I’ve played football since I was five (purple team lol) until I my sophmore year of high school (got a job). Didier Drogba is my favorite player so I’ve followed him from Marseille to Chelsea, I loved all the players that have come and gone since that time and I’ve enjoyed the success that the club has had. My other favorite players are Ramires, Sideshow and Hulk. All of my other football watching friends are Scousers or Gooners, even my younger brothers have been brainwashed by Wenger.
I hear ya ...
Everyone football fan I know personally not supporting Bundesliga teams or the German NT are either Pool fans or have an extreme crush on Pool. I even have Pool fans in my family … it causes regular bloodshed on family gatherings :A

Hey guys, the names Rocky. I’m from Toronto and I’ve been a fan of the blues for the past 12 years after my first introduction to soccer. Currently in University pursuing a double major in Kinesiology and Theoretical Physics. Also part of the USMC but was granted permission to finish up school. I also coach soccer, and have the pleasure of working with some of the best soccer minds in Canada (which isn’t saying much) coach a varsity university womens soccer team. Pretty much love every kind of sport, a fan of all the Toronto teams, and love the Philadelphia Eagles. Played soccer in university and played for a chance to cap for Canada on a couple of occasions at U17. Love the blog, been a reader for a long time, don’t have much time to comment as much as I used too. But I love how its grown, and so have it’s writers.

Hey
My name is Doron and i come from Australia. I started supporting Chelsea because all my friends were supporting premier league teams (no one was supporting chelsea) and i didn’t want to join any of the generic liverpool, arsenal or man utd camps. Im the only Chelsea supporter in a massive and fanatic group of friends and this blog is pretty much my only opportunity to talk to other chelsea fans.
I’m doing a combined Law and Arts degree in university and work in a law firm, as well as developing a website that i hope will make me rich some day. I’m completely obsessed about football and refresh Soccernet, Goal.com and other websites at least 20 times a day hoping to see news.
Last season, i visited the Bridge and saw us demolish Blackpool 4-0…right before our most dreadful slump began. I was ready to go on a murder spree when Ancelotti got sacked because i thought it was a massive mistake. My favourite players are Essien and Ashley Cole. Back in the day, my main men were Makelele, Joe Cole and Damien Duff… i’m still pretty sad we left Joe Cole leave, i think he could have really helped us last season and maybe even now.
Right now, I’m really excited about a lot of the new signings like Romeu, Ramires and De Bruyne, (aside for the obvious Mata and Sturridge). However, I think we have a lot of problems in the squad right now and i’m pretty worried about our immediate future.

I was at that game as well.
The Blackpool fans were awesome throughout the game, especially towards the end, when they were singing “Your not as good as Arsenal” as they had stuck 5 past them the week before!

Hi
Hi everyone. I am Srinivas a master’s student in Mathematics from India. I became a chelsea fan when I first saw the champions league match between Chelsea and Liverpool( thank you John Arne Riise) . Since then I have been following their games ( which do come at a convinient time here :) ). I LOVE Terry ( I watch his videos before I go for my football games), the old Cech and ofcourse Luiz now. I wish to see a clinical chelsea ( one from 2004-2005) era. My ultimate dream is to watch a Champions League game at the Bridge and see terry score hsi trademark thundering headers!! KTBFFH
I became after the last the last time they met each other in the champions leauge.

I’m chris and i’m in brighton, i’m originally from bromley and have been a chelsea fan since I about 1995, when I was 5. I supported both wolves (cool name) and newcastle (newcastle brown ale star looked great on the kit) before chelsea, but i switched because my mate was a chelsea fan and it meant i could start going to games.
My Favourite player has always been zola, and is the best thing that has ever happened to chelsea, for obvious reasons, but my current favourite pretty much swaps every year or so. I am somewhat in love with josh mceachran and romelu lukaku, at the moment.
Outside of chelsea, i’m studying illustration at university! check my blog – http://chrisharnan.tumblr.com/

Hello all!
I’m Brett. I’m from Southern New Hampshire (about 30 minutes out of boston) and grew up not realizing the wonders of football. Fortunately, my best friend was born in London and was raised as a Chelsea fan. He put me on to them in ‘07 when we were in high school and I’ve been in love with them and the beautiful game ever since.
I am a third year Philosophy major at UNH, which I enjoy immensely. I also enjoy playing tennis and basketball. My favorite weekend activities are drinking (beer, whiskey, rum, gin, but NO tequila), smoking weed, and watching Chelsea.
My favorite Chelsea players are John Terry, Super Frank, David Luiz, and Mata. I also like Barca (bad, I know) because they obviously play beautiful football but moreover because I hate RM. I am 50% Spanish, 25% Irish and 25% italian and I support the Spanish national team as well as the USMNT. I also enjoy watching the Bruins, Celtics, and Patriots, but I hate baseball. Sorry this has become such a long post…
Your school of choice
and some of your weekend activities align quite well. ;) I work with quite a few UNH’ers with similar hobbies, haha.
haha
Yes I am not short of friends here who share the hobbies of watching football and exploring botany so that does not surprise me. It seems our reputation precedes us.

As a person that grew up just outside of UConn
(famous for drinking and their Spring Weekends)… a state over from URHigh… and attended NEU (drinks and sets things on fire whenever Boston teams win), I’ve come to know that New England is full of schools along those lines. Northern New England schools just get most all the botany students ;) Must be all those trees up there.
I didn't see this until now somehow
Hello! I’m Charlie, I’m from the, uh, great state of New Jersey, and my favorite color is green. Because of the Seattle Mariners. I’m a Mariners fan, see.
When I was younger, I played a lot of baseball and soccer, and that became hockey. In the summers, we would travel to Seattle to visit an ‘uncle’ (a friend of my mothers that was basically like a brother to her and, since she was an only child, we labeled her closest friends as ‘aunts’ and ‘uncle’) and go to baseball games. And, due to where I live, we used to get the Eagles games, the Sabres games, and the Knicks games on our local television. So, that’s how my smattering of American sports teams happened.
I graduated from Rowan University with a BA in Health and Exercise Science: Health Promotion/Fitness Management, Athletic Training, and Health and Physical Education (triple – yes, triple – major; I cannot tell you why) and am applying to schools to pursue an MA in Health Psychology or a job in the health industry, whichever comes first. I tend to post quickly, with little regard given for repeating points, and thus my greatest pet peeve is the lack of a freakin’ EDIT button – but, I like the idea of someone having to stand by what they say, so I’m torn. Since I have frequented Lookout Landing since 2008 (!), I should be used to it by now. I’m not.
I also played lots of [successful] poker during the poker boom (I really miss PokerStars), and that’s how I paid off my debt. I also enjoy traveling immensely. I became intrigued in Chelsea (and European footy in general) because of my increased exposure to the squad through the reguLLars, and I became a Chelsea supporter because of Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, John Terry, Michael Essien, Petr Cech, so on and so forth. My favorite player of those is, without a doubt, Didier.
Next year, I intend to travel to England again, where I will buy a ticket to a Champion’s League fixture and watch Chelsea play at the Bridge. (See what I did there?) The best video games I have ever played (that includes almost nothing of the past nine years – wow, it’s really been that long? – but rather extensively includes the classics prior to that stretch) are Suikoden II and EverQuest. My staple beer is still Guinness (I like beer a lot), and my favorite President was Millard Fillmore. My least favorite President is Sepp Blatter.
Just kidding, Sepp. Or am I?
