A Xherdan Shaqiri Poll

Most of you know 20-year-old Xhedran Shaqiri from his exploits at FC Basel and the Swiss national team. Over the last couple of weeks, many of you have asked whether or not he's been linked to Chelsea. As far as I can tell, he hasn't been, but Basel appear to be willing to sell their star man and it sounds as though the asking price would be around £20M.

At that sort of price for an extraordinarily talented (although somewhat erratic) young winger, do you all think Chelsea should be getting involved? Time for a poll!

I'm a big fan of this guy!

I’ve seen quite a few rumours about him, unfortunately none linking him to Chelsea, but I have yet to see a report valuing him at £20m, most seem to go in the £10m-£15m range! A lot of pluses if Chelsea were to go after him, he plays in the Swiss league and a player of his quality is not going to stay there beyond this summer, not likely to face competition for his signature from the likes of Real Madrid as you would with Hazard or Goetze. In my opinion he is best option around in terms of value for money!

Wait until summer. Go for Hazard/Gotze first.

If strong bids for either of these two fails, then this could work. I’m not convinced he’s better than Sturridge/Mata as wings. Gotze in the middle behind Torres would be better. Chelsea are buying a lot of young talent with potential (Lukaku, KDB, Romeu). Some of them come good (Romeu), others might not. We need a sure thing, push us over the top player. Hazard or Gotze would do that. Like Aguero has helped City this year.

I think he is a sure thing!

He was much more impressive than Mata in last summers u21’s and stood out a lot more in the champions league this season than either Hazard or Goetze. He has proven himself at full international level also and as far as playing as a winger is concerned he is much better than Sturridge as he doesn’t look to shoot every time he gets the ball!

I know so little about this guy.

I don;t mind as long as it works out XD. If he’s good enough at 20 to actually warrant £20mil then that can only be a good thing. If however he’s being sold based on having a huge but unproven potential then it seems a bit risky.

by Famouscfc on Jan 25, 2012 6:06 PM GMT reply actions

He could be a useful player

He does tick all the categories we seem to be looking for recently-young,potential,creativity…and for £20m definitely worth it. Haven’t seen much of him before this season-but he did the job on United in the CL with Basel. And to make it better, talks with Galatasaray broke down today as they didn’t meet Basel’s price-I think they offered a little over £10m-sooo we might even be able to get him at £15-18m,if we try.

I have seen no rumour of him to Chelsea

I do wish to hear them. The first bid made by Galatasaray was less then 10 mil reportedly So I think 15-18mil would be enough.

Get real, lads!

Juan Mata, proven world-class player and world champion, cost us about that. Shaqiri’s “value price” should be no more than 12.

by af02 on Jan 25, 2012 6:54 PM GMT reply actions

They both played in the Euro U21s last summer!

Shaqiri completely outshone Mata throughout the tournament!

Hehe

but the part that made those memes so hilariously funny isn’t really my merit. Credit where credit is due ;)

This guy is class very tricky winger who is erratic but its young(kalou once upon a time) and the talent is there

I also like the fact that he can play Left back……we need versatile players

Defo for £20M

I don’t get why we never been linked with Honda either if he goes to Lazio for 16M which is what has been rumoured (not sure if euros or £) then thats a steal and a half.

by Adeyo on Jan 25, 2012 10:57 PM GMT reply actions

as for questions about the asking price, quote from espn

Shaqiri, 20, has been linked with Tottenham and AC Milan, as well as United, and there was some surprise that such a highly-rated player had not been snapped up by one of Europe’s established powers, rather than Galatasaray. Basel are reportedly holding out for around £20 million.

Stupid question...

Is it sher-DAN ZACK-iri? or sher-DAN SHACK-iri?

No problemo

I should add though, by ‘-dan’ I meant ‘-dahn’. Albanian is weird.

True say.
